- Bachelors Degree is a must. I have presented candidates without and been rejected (even one with AA)
- Workday and Kronos best, but a good overall systems person for payroll is a must
- Managing a payroll staff, even if its just 1-2
- Must be systems/systems improvement minded. Need to focus on continuing the centralization of payroll processing from corporate.
- Salary is $120-$135K, ideally, but can do more if needed. Outstanding bonus of 25%, too!

Client needs a strong Payroll Manager to lead payroll processing for the United States (2 plants in US) and Canada (4 plants in CAN). This position manages payroll for about 4,000-5,000 employees in hourly unionized, non-unionized and salaried roles. This person will work with the Compensation and Benefits team, third-party service providers, and various staff at our operations facilities in the US and Canada.
- Responsible for processing biweekly and semi-monthly payrolls to ensure that payroll is accurate, timely and complies with various government regulations as well as periodic payroll and special runs for both US and Canada
- Manages a payroll team of 3 (at corporate) that processes Canadian and US payroll
- Input of payroll data, timekeeping activities, distribute periodic reports (e.g., gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.), journal entries, account reconciliations, garnishments, child support orders and other payroll deduction programs
- Oversee and reconcile payroll payments for 401(k), Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pensions, Flexible Spending, Health Savings Accounts, and other employee/employer contribution accounts, pay increases, bonus payments, benefit contribution changes, changes to tax schedules, etc.
- Trouble‑shoot, problem‑solve and constantly improve payroll processing, systems, and reporting
- Train front‑line supervisors and managers on payroll and timekeeping, and with company managers and employees to resolve payroll‑related issues

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field is required
- 8‑15 years of progressive responsibility in payroll with US and Canada experience including bargained and non‑bargained union employees is required
- Experience managing a team is required (any amount OK)
- Previous experience with Workday and/or Kronos systems, highly preferred, but good systems experience is key
- Strong knowledge of regulations related to payroll processing, payroll taxes, garnishments, and other related compliance issues (in US and CAN)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be customer service focused, collaborative, flexible, and team oriented
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite:
Excel, Word and Power Point
