Position Overview

The Protected Band Watch Officer (PBWO) is a 24/7 position with rotating 12-hour shifts located at the 4th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB) in Colorado. The PBWO assists users in resolving system-related Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) issues in accordance with the Joint Spectrum Interference Resolution Procedures, Satellite Communications Electromagnetic Interference Resolution Procedures, and Satellite Communications Enclosure E EMI Resolution.

The PBWO maintains continuous global situational awareness for Milstar, AEHF, Enhanced Polar System (EPS), and follow-on protected band constellations to facilitate immediate operational response to satellite anomalies.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide 24/7 Protected Band Watch Officer (PBWO) support for the 4 SOPS Operations Center at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado.

  • Provide personnel for a 24/7 protected watch stander role to support Protected SATCOM operations
  • Assist users in resolving system-related Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) issues in accordance with the Joint Spectrum Interference Resolution Procedures
  • Maintain continuous global situational awareness for Milstar, Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF), Ultra High Frequency Follow-On (UHF), Extremely High Frequency (EHF), and the Enhanced Polar System (EPS), as well as follow-on protected band constellations, to facilitate immediate operational responses to satellite anomalies
  • Be prepared to produce graphical representations of data, including the number of impacted users and the layouts of beams and satellite footprints, as requested.
  • Gather and consolidate constellation resource monitoring (RM) data.

    - In coordination with the 4th Space Operations Squadron (4 SOPS) engineering and communications support functions, assess and determine the global operational impacts of satellite anomalies.

    - Generate and release SATCOM Event Messages (SEM) in accordance with applicable directives and reporting criteria
  • Provide operational interface, technical expertise, and system status while serving in a support role as the single, central focal point for all Protected Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) operations
Education

An associate degree in Information Technology or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience

Experience

1-3 years of PBWO experience

Clearance Requirement

Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in Military Satellite Operations
  • Support role for the single, central focal point for all Protected SATCOM operations
  • Maintained continuous global situational awareness for the Milstar, AEHF, and EPS Protected Band constellations
  • Strong capability for multi-tasking, along with excellent project and time management skills
  • Demonstrated talent in problem solving and resolution, with expertise in deconflicting priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with facilitating immediate ops impact response to satellite anomalies
  • Experience performing anomaly assessment to determine all aspects of causes and conditions of satellite anomaly with recovery actions for accurate up channel reporting and potential user impact
  • Knowledge in generate/release SATCOM Event Message (SEM)
Shift Schedule

This is a rotating 12-hour shift position (Dayshift and Midshift). This role supports a 24-hour, 7 days per week operations center.
