This part‑time position involves assisting students crossing streets to and from school at an assigned post. The Crossing Guard must exercise considerable vigilance in directing traffic and ensuring students cross streets safely. The work is performed independently with only occasional direction from a superior.

• Report promptly each day to the designated work location with the proper equipment (stop sign, vest, whistle, etc.), or to the school office if directed by the principal.
• Direct students and traffic at assigned crosswalks to ensure safe crossing.
• Monitor student behavior and report to the Principal as required.
• Maintain communications with the Principal and the Colorado Springs Police Department regarding incidents at the assigned location.
• Escort students, parents and the general public across street by waiting for a break in traffic, holding up the stop sign, walking into the middle of the road and stopping traffic until everyone is safely across.
• Place caution signs or cones at designated points before going on duty and remove them at the end of shift.
• Maintain safety procedures at the designated street corner.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and crossing guard stop sign by completing a complaint form and turning it in to the police department.
• Use the following equipment: stop sign, whistle, safety signs or cones, hand‑held safety light.
• Understand and follow the District’s policies and procedures regarding supervision, discipline and other relevant matters.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, noise, fog, and snow, etc.).

• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.

Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, noise, fog, and snow, etc.). Contends with speeding vehicles and motorists who are not always alert.

The work is mostly walking and standing with periods of sitting. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, ladders or scaffolding; bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; demonstrate an athletic activity or physical exercise; feel the shape, size and temperature of objects; and physically restrain students.

The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

Part‑Time

$15.30 to $15.30 Per Hour
