Job SummaryProvide project support to Dean of Faculty (DF) staff and cadets in the planning, design, construction and installation of permanent and temporary exhibits.
Primary DutyWork in Training Devices Section under the overall guidance of the Lead Exhibits Specialist and supervision of the Cadet Services Manager. Work closely with DF staff, cadets, and other authorized customers. Projects may involve welding, machining, woodworking, metal working, sheet metal work, plastics, engraving, painting and finishing. May work directly with staff and cadets to plan, design, and oversee construction and installation of permanent and temporary exhibits and displays.
Provide mentorship to cadets, applying master level expertise and experience when needed, allowing the fullest participation by the cadet possible. Confer with DF staff to determine theme, content, interpretative or informational purpose, planned location of exhibit, budget, and time limitations, and plan production schedule for fabrication and installation of exhibit components. Prepare preliminary drawings of proposed exhibit, including detailed construction, layout, and material specifications, for final drawing rendition by other personnel, basing design and specifications on knowledge of artistic and technical concepts, principles, and techniques.
Submit plan for approval, and adapt plan as needed to serve intended purpose or to conform to budget or fabrication restrictions. Oversee preparation of artwork and construction of exhibit components to ensure intended interpretation of concepts and conformance to structural and material specifications. Oversee placement of collection objects or informational materials in exhibit framework. Operate a wide variety of specialized equipment safely.
Produce nameplates or office signs to meet DF departmental requirements. Inspect installed exhibit for conformance to specifications and satisfactory operation of special effects components. Support special projects, including intercollegiate and other competitions, e.g., ASME Human‑Powered Vehicle; advanced cadet research projects, such as motor stands for dynamometer research; and fabricating components for various astronautical efforts, such as cadet Small Satellite program.
Perform other duties as required.
Two to 3 years' experience in crafts and trades. Requires 2 to 3 years' experience in planning, design, construction and installation of permanent and temporary exhibits. Understand, read, write, and speak fluent English. Expert proficiency in carpentry.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent education or job training.
Required CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License. Able to receive and maintain a favorable Local Background Check (LBC) and National Agency Check (NAC) as applicable to the position requirements.
Salary$45.28 per hour. Fringe incentive will be $1,516.29 per month per the CBA.
