Player/coach role leading the floor of a fast-scaling industrial fabrication platform.
THE ROLERun the floor of a pod-based industrial fabrication platform serving large national clients. From the shop floor to the customer call to the cost report - you own production execution, end to end.
ABOUT MOUNTAIN OFF-ROAD / DSMMountain Off-Road / DSM is a precision steel fabrication and CNC machining platform in Delta, Colorado. Our work spans:
- Architectural cladding for national transit programs
- AWS D1.1 structural steel for utility-scale infrastructure
- Stainless production cells for OEM clients
- Aftermarket consumer products
We're scaling. In the last twelve months we've signed multi-year programs with national clients, launched a dedicated stainless production cell, and stood up the first formal pod operating model in our shop's history. This isn't a maintenance shop.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProduction & Delivery Execution
- Own and manage the production schedule across all pods to meet customer deadlines and maximize throughput
- Prioritize work, allocate labor, and adjust schedules in real time based on constraints and exceptions
- Ensure all jobs ship on time, on budget, and to specification
Technical & Customer Support
- Review drawings, specifications, and RFQs for manufacturability and cost implications
- Provide technical input to sales and customers on design, materials, and fabrication methods
- Support quoting with accurate routings, labor estimates, and material requirements
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and enforce quality checkpoints throughout fabrication processes
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects or rework
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean principles
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a safety-first culture and lead by example on the shop floor
- Empower employees to stop work when unsafe conditions exist
Equipment, Materials & Cost Control
- Ensure all equipment is maintained, operational, and reliable
- Monitor job costs, labor hours, and productivity - take action to stay on target
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, cross-trained team across pods
- Minimum 2-deep capability on critical skills where possible
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
- First 90 days:
Own the production schedule and weekly cadence. Establish the operating rhythm - standups, exceptions, KPI reporting. - 6 months:
Cross-pod throughput is yours. Anchor program shipping clean, pod leads accountable to you. - 12 months:
Production runs predictably. Lean checkpoints standing, on-time delivery targets hit. - Beyond:
Director of Operations as the platform scales.
- 5+ years experience in steel fabrication or manufacturing leadership
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes - cutting, forming, welding, assembly
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and customer specifications
- Experience with production scheduling, job costing, and workflow optimization
