CAMA is seeking a community development worker/couple to join a small team engaged in context‑fitted work in Indonesia with a community of the majority faith. You will build meaningful, impactful relationships through work with a social foundation, an English training center, social enterprise, agriculture, and/or other innovative community development projects.

- Join or begin transformational community development initiative(s) or social enterprise
- Live in a community of the majority faith building relationships that lead to demonstration and proclamation of the gospel
- Learn Bahasa Indonesia fluently and possible local language conversationally
- A recognized bachelor’s degree (if a couple, this applies to both spouses)
- Completion of World Perspectives Mission Course or other comparable mission course
- Completion of Alliance Polity course
- A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 40 or higher
- Experience in community development work and discipleship stateside or internationally
- A deep heart for unreached peoples and a creative, contextual approach to ministry
- Master’s degree in a development‑related field (adult education, community development, international economic development, tropical agriculture, public health, etc.)
- Knowledge of development best practice and field experience
- Current involvement in ministry/pastoral experience
- Ability to articulate personal conversion and call to ministry
- Ability to communicate the gospel to a seeker
- Demonstrated heart for the poor and marginalized (Micah 6:8)
- Theological alignment with The Alliance
- Demonstrated flexibility and grace in all aspects of life
- Vibrant spiritual life and consistent practice of spiritual disciplines
- Ability to learn from and recover from failure
Summer/fall 2027. Following appointment, and once fundraising goals and other qualifications are met, the appointee is required to attend a cross‑cultural and language‑acquisition program and pre‑field orientation prior to deploying.
General InformationIndonesians are famous for their gentle, warm hospitality. The successful applicant will join a cross‑specialization team working with a people group of 3.5 to 6 million people who are nearly 100 percent majority religion.
The successful applicant will live in a medium‑sized city, surrounded by rice paddies and a short drive from beautiful beaches. The successful applicant will live in a rented home in a strategic location and participate in the life of the local community. Some Western‑style amenities are available.
A small community of English‑speaking believers meets regularly, but no established international church exists. This will necessitate the building of deep relationships with nationals, intentional self‑care, and off‑site mentoring. The work a successful applicant will join was started by (or has included significant participation in) response to natural disaster(s). This has resulted in a reservoir of good will and a strong foundation to build on.

Language ExpectationsLanguage is an essential part of ministry. For those who do not know the language, they will receive one year of intensive language and cultural study in Java followed by language study in the context of ministry. The goal will be to speak, read, and write at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.
Health ConsiderationsThe city will have adequate to quality health‑care facilities and doctors, and most medications will be readily available. Serious health issues are typically handled in the country’s capital, Malaysia, or Singapore.
