The Executive Pastor serves as a key leadership partner to the senior pastor, providing strategic oversight of the church's administrative, operational and organizational functions. This role requires a pastor's heart combined with strong leadership and management capabilities to effectively guide staff, ministries and operational systems to fulfill the church’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities- Partner with the senior pastor to evaluate ministries, establish strategic goals and drive organizational development
- Oversee daily operations and administrative functions of the church
- Lead and manage office staff, facility personnel and financial team members
- Ensure effective communication systems and processes across all church departments
- Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with all legal and denominational requirements
- Provide direct supervision and leadership development for key staff members
- Facilitate regular staff meetings, planning sessions and team building initiatives
- Oversee hiring processes, performance evaluations and professional development programs
- Foster a collaborative and mission-focused work environment
- Coordinate staff schedules, responsibilities and ministry assignments
- Collaborate with senior pastor and leadership team on long‑term strategic planning
- Translate vision into actionable ministry goals and operational objectives
- Monitor and assess ministry effectiveness and organizational health
- Lead change management initiatives and organizational improvements
- Ensure alignment of all ministries with church mission, core commitments, philosophy of ministry and vision
- Work closely with financial staff to oversee budget development and management
- Ensure proper financial controls and reporting procedures
- Coordinate facility maintenance, improvements and space utilization
- Oversee technology systems and infrastructure needs
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts
- Provide spiritual guidance, support and occasional pastoral counseling to congregation members
- Conduct hospital visits, home visits and crisis intervention as needed
- Officiate weddings and funerals as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate pastoral sensitivity in all care situations
- Preach and teach in various church settings
- Coordinate special events, programs and church‑wide initiatives
- Support ministry leaders in resource allocation and program development
- Facilitate cross‑ministry collaboration and communication
- Reports directly to the senior pastor
- Direct Reports:
Associate pastoral staff, administrative staff and other assigned personnel - Collaborates closely with all pastoral staff and ministry leaders
- Interfaces regularly with the elder team and volunteer leaders
- Serves as primary administrative contact for congregation and external partners
- Bachelor's degree required;
Master of Divinity or related graduate degree strongly preferred - 5-7 years of pastoral ministry experience, parachurch executive experience or corporate executive experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, management and organizational development
- Previous employment experience in a multi‑staff church environment strongly preferred
- Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to Christian discipleship
- Clear calling to pastoral ministry with a servant's heart
- Exhibits the character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
- Alignment with the church's Statement of Faith, mission and core commitments
- Active involvement in local church ministry and leadership
- Proven ability to lead, develop and manage staff teams effectively
- Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with budget management and financial oversight
- Proficiency in organizational systems and project management
- High level of integrity, professionalism and emotional maturity
