About the Job: The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Inspector III to the Contract Programs team within the Operations and Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. As an Inspector III for this team, you will work with third party inspection staff and testing agencies to inspect construction projects in the public right-of-way ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

It includes inspecting ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps, drainage systems, concrete, asphalt mill, and overlay work while coordinating with stakeholders and addressing public concerns.

• Inspect construction, replacement, and repair projects in the public right-of-way; ensure that all projects are completed in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, codes and regulations
• Collaborate with third party inspection staff and testing agencies as subject matter expert about asphalt and concrete placement ensuring work meets all required specifications
• Maintain oversight on all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian ramps constructed to ensure accordance to federal and state requirements
• Review and interpret construction drawings and engineering plans; compare field work to design specifications
• Analyze tests on soil aggregate, asphalt, and concrete for compliance with compaction densities and specifications outlined in City ordinances
• Respond to inquiries and concerns from various entities and the general public; investigate and resolve issues
• Coordinate concrete right-of-way repairs with the proper department; contact property owners as necessary; file related documentation for necessary repairs.
• Oversee grading and erosion control to ensure conformance to City Engineering Standards and Specifications; respond to all grading complaints and thoroughly investigate to help resolve any conflicts that may arise

• Operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive civil engineering inspection program
• Basic engineering designs and construction management
• Methods and techniques of concrete, asphalt, and materials testing and analysis
• Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and requirements

• Work independently and as a member of a team
• Read and interpret blueprints
• Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
• Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field

• Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restrictions
• Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and standards
• Superior conflict resolution skills
• Experience working in a municipal or government agency
• Experience with civil infrastructure inspection in the public right-of-way, erosion control and stormwater systems
• Formal training or possession a certification in materials testing, erosion control, or ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance
