The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Security Guard (GS-0085-06) at HQ, NORAD and USNORTHCOM at Peterson Air Force Base, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The primary purpose of this position is to protect Federal property from hazards such as sabotage, trespass, theft, terrorist attack, loss and/or damage of classified information, fire, and accidental or willful damage and destruction.

Responsibilities
  • Protect Federal property from hazards including sabotage, trespass, theft, terrorist attack, loss or damage of classified information, fire, and other risks.
  • Perform security and patrol duties inside and outside the Headquarters, respond to alarms and incidents, investigate irregularities, and maintain 24/7/365 surveillance in designated threat areas.
  • Serve as a member of the installation’s security response capability and perform integrated base defense functions in support of Air Force instructions and installation security plans.
  • Assist in deterring, detecting, delaying, assessing, responding to, and documenting unauthorized access to installations designated as restricted to the general public.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, procedures, and security practices; perform patrols, crime prevention, and incident response; and apply self-defense and security procedures as required.
  • Work with others to support security operations during exercises, real-world events, and emergency responses as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Proficiency with assigned firearms/weapons; initial qualification required and semi-annual requalification thereafter. Serve as a controlled area entry manager and provide armed response as needed for sensitive facilities.
  • Lautenberg Amendment/Violence Against Women Act considerations: pass a Criminal History Background Check; candidates with domestic violence convictions are ineligible. Certification of prior convictions may be required.
  • Must pass medical examinations, periodic medical exams, physical fitness tests, hearing standards, and color/contrast discrimination requirements; promptly report medical changes.
  • Initial and periodic job compatibility assessments; annual duty position evaluation (pass/fail).
  • Complete formal law enforcement training; ongoing training on tactics for catastrophic event preparation and response.
  • Annual first responder training/certification in CPR, self-aid buddy care, and first aid.
  • Uniform wear and appearance standards; shift work and overtime may be required, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possession of protective equipment and potential certification for chemical protection gear; medical conditions must not preclude use.
  • Designation as Non-Critical Sensitive; ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Designation as a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the DoD drug testing program; abstain from illegal drug use and submit to testing as required.
  • Key position designation with related conditions; some terms may require waivers and reminders about readiness for wartime/emergency operations.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (e.g., standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs) and work in various duty hours and locations; may require split shifts and other duty arrangements.
  • May be required to wear protective gear and to be trained in use of chemical agents and baton.
  • Position may involve security duties across multiple programs and facilities with cross-functional responsibilities.
