Airport Operations Agents support the safe, secure, and efficient operation of all airside, landside, and terminal areas of the Colorado Springs Airport. The position performs routine inspections to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and local regulatory requirements; identifies operational issues; and issues work orders for required corrective action. Agents coordinate and support emergency response activities and staff the Airport Communications Center by answering phones and radios, monitoring operational systems, and facilitating communication among airport departments, tenants, and responding agencies.
This role provides broad exposure to a wide range of operational situations and regulatory environments. The selected candidate must pass (or have already passed) a fingerprint-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration.
As an Airport Operations Agent, you will:
- Conduct airfield, terminal, and landside inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps, lighting, signage, perimeter barriers, facilities, and buildings; identify discrepancies and initiate corrective actions, including issuing maintenance work orders. Issue Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) when conditions warrant.
- Operate vehicles on airport movement and non-movement areas while maintaining required radio communication with Air Traffic Control and other airport personnel.
- Respond to all airport emergencies, including aircraft incidents and accidents; coordinate responding services; serve as the initial Airport incident commander until relieved; document activities; and prepare required reports.
- Perform required security inspections and compliance checks in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and the Airport Security Program; respond to alarms, security incidents, and access control issues.
- Inspect and monitor terminal and landside operations to support safe passenger flow, facility readiness, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain detailed written logs and prepare reports on significant events, communications, operational actions, discrepancies, and incidents occurring during the shift.
- Use airport communications and monitoring systems to receive, route, and relay information; monitor radios, CCTV, fire alarm systems, emergency phones, and other tools supporting airport operations.
- Communicate effectively with tenants, stakeholders, internal departments, responding agencies, and the public to support routine operations and emergency responses.
- Exercise a high degree of critical thinking and sound decision-making to assess situations, determine appropriate actions, resolve operational issues, and escalate matters to senior staff when necessary.
- Implement department plans and procedures during operational events, emergencies, irregular operations, and other situations requiring coordinated response, including:
- Implement and coordinate snow removal activities in accordance with the Airport Snow and Ice Control Plan
- Observing ground transportation and other landside activities to ensure compliance with Airport rules and operating requirements
- Coordinating responses to irregular operations such as diversions, and service disruptions
- Other duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 14 CFR Part 139 and applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circulars
- Airport Security Regulations 49 CFR Part 1542
- Emergency response principles and airport emergency procedures
- Radio communication procedures and standard aviation terminology, including the phonetic alphabet
- Proficiency with standard office technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and database applications
Ability to:
- Interpret and apply relevant Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Airport policies, procedures, and operational requirements
- Properly communicate during emergencies and remain calm under pressure
- Use radios, communication systems, CCTV, fire alarm systems, and related monitoring tools
- Work effectively with frequent interruptions and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills
- Stay informed of airport operational, safety, and security issues
Shifts for this position will be scheduled depending on department needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
