FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: FHC Program Manager
Schedule: 40 hours weekly
Rate of Pay: $21.57 hourly

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the shelter while on duty and for the direct oversight of all employees and volunteers. In the event of a serious or urgent matter, the supervisor must immediately contact the shelter administrator on call. The role ensures the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the facility property, requires patience, and the ability to diffuse volatile situations among clients and between clients and staff.
The supervisor trains new hires, volunteers, and temporary staff, supervises assigned shifts, and performs additional duties as necessary, all while maintaining flexibility within the work schedule.
- Work with clients regarding complaints, issues, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Train new hires, volunteers, and temporary staff during scheduled shifts.
- Ensure staff follow shelter policies and procedures.
- Ensure staff and volunteers treat all clients with respect.
- Create weekly work schedules in collaboration with Shelter Program Managers.
- Schedule mandatory training for staff as needed.
- Act as the primary contact for staff cancellations and secure replacements.
- Notify the Shelter Program Manager or on‑call administrator of inclement weather and determine shelter hours or early check‑ins.
- Communicate events involving police or other emergency services to the Shelter Program Manager or on‑call administrator.
- Maintain clear, clean external perimeters and ensure all doors are locked.
- Ensure sufficient bedding and blankets for all clients.
- Interact with and monitor clients’ behavior, providing excellent customer service.
- Encourage clients to comply with facility policies and procedures.
- Conduct frequent rounds of the facility, including perimeters, bunk areas, bathrooms, patio, and kitchen, monitoring through cameras and screenings.
- Complete logs, incident reports, and mandatory documentation.
- Respond appropriately to child abuse and neglect situations, contacting police, fire, CPS, or other first responders as directed.
- Report irregularities in client behavior, building or security issues as necessary.
- Serve as liaison with police and other emergency services.
- Employ crisis prevention and intervention during conflicts.
- Adopt a strength‑based, client‑centered approach.
- Monitor clients’ progress toward personal goals.
- Model appropriate social skills for clients throughout the shelter.
- Provide encouragement and moral support to clients.
- Maintain proper personal and professional boundaries.
- Handle front‑desk duties, including answering phones, filing, data entry, monitoring surveillance cameras, and fire‑alarm notifications.
- Distribute supplies, medications, and other belongings to clients as needed.
- Prioritize the welfare of all clients.
- Present a professional appearance consistently.
- Assist in gathering and recording required information from clients.
- Implement center policies and procedures daily.
- Collect vital statistics accurately during intake and discharge.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for all clients.
- Maintain supplies necessary for front‑desk operations.
- Work comfortably with a diverse population.
- Perform client intake and exit processes.
- Inform a client of termination based on performance and assist with bagging belongings when required.
