Weekend Daytime Safety Staff
Under the supervision of the Director of Housing, the Weekend Daytime Safety Staff is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe environment during daytime weekend hours at The Launchpad, a residential apartment facility for youth experiencing homelessness. The Weekend Safety Staff protects residents and the property from threats, hazards, and unauthorized access. Other responsibilities include monitoring resident activities, addressing any immediate needs or concerns, and enforcing the building rules and guidelines.
This position will work on weekends and have a schedule combination of various days and hours, up to 20 hours per week.
Job duties include:
- Monitoring youth during weekend day shifts to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Enforcing The PLACE Launchpad rules and guidelines in a fair and consistent manner.
- Addressing any immediate needs or concerns of residents.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization within the facility.
- Upholding confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with policies and regulations.
- Conducting hourly scheduled and random foot patrols of the Launchpad facility areas, including the lobby, stairwells, parking, and exterior grounds.
- Responding immediately to alarms (intrusion, fire, panic) and investigating noise complaints, resident disturbances, or property damage.
- Maintaining accurate shift logs, incident reports, and safety logs with precise times and details.
- Escalating incidents to emergency services when necessary and following established emergency procedures.
- Inspecting for signs of theft, damage, tampering; enforcing site policies and safety protocols.
- Conducting hourly safety inspections, reporting hazards, and ensuring compliance with security and safety regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements include:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Strong judgment, clear communication, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Must pass both federal and state background checks.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and to assess and change priorities based upon agency and client needs.
- Use of discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, requiring self-motivation and reliability.
- Function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage tasks and activities in an unpredictable environment.
Physical requirements include:
- Able to frequently sit, stand, walk, and occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Able to be on feet and mobile for up to 10 hours per day.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
Work environment includes long hours on feet in a residential building environment and may include physical conditions such as encountering drugs and paraphernalia, sharps, and interpersonal contact from non-employees that include sexual innuendo and raw, abusive or threatening language. Employees may experience exposure to varied environments, including public areas, restricted zones, and emergency situations.
The PLACE provides personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety training to prepare and protect The PLACE employees in these uncontrolled environments. Compliance with safety protocol is required, which may include the use of PPE, involvement of law enforcement, and/or enactment of emergency protocols, detailed in The PLACE's Emergency Operations Plan.
