Position Overview
Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Building Services Maintenance Foreperson. The Building Services Maintenance Foreperson is the supervisor/lead/specialist level in the maintenance series. The Building Services Maintenance Foreperson performs a variety of skilled, semi‑skilled and lead duties, requiring independent judgment and thorough knowledge of departmental operations, in the development and maintenance of county buildings and grounds.
Salary & Work Hours- Salary: $70,428.00 – $ annually
- Full‑time, non‑exempt position
- Work hours:
6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday‑Friday in Boulder, CO - Holidays: 12‑week Paid Caregiver leave, various public holidays listed below
Boulder County, CO. Employees required to reside in Colorado as of the first day of work.
Responsibilities- Plans, organizes, assigns and reviews work of maintenance and grounds employees according to established SOPs
- Plans, organizes and reviews the work performed by outside contractors
- Implements preventive/routine maintenance and improvement projects on properties administered by the Building Services Department
- Monitors and adjusts building control systems to ensure proper and efficient operation
- Performs skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of large commercial building equipment including HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing and electrical systems
- Performs and supervises snow removal operations
- Performs skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools and equipment
- Participates in rotating on‑call; may respond to emergencies after hours
- Participates in staff evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed
- Performs related duties as required
- May be reassigned in emergency situations
- At least five years of large commercial building maintenance experience (preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs of HVAC, boiler, chiller, plumbing, electrical systems, light carpentry, grounds/landscape oversight)
- Three years of building automation system experience, including monitoring and adjustments to ensure operability; at least two years of supervisory experience
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; reliable transportation for business use
- Background investigation required; job offer contingent upon passing
Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. Additional related education may count toward required experience.

- Access to reliable transportation that is readily available for business use
- Thorough knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures necessary for maintaining large commercial buildings and landscape
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to such work
- Understanding of county and department values, policies, and procedures
- Skill in supervision and leadership, and ability to work effectively with employees, agencies and the public
- Skill in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment associated with large commercial buildings
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and MSDS information
- Ability to work effectively with employees, agencies, and the public
Back and Upper Body Lifting:
Frequently lift 1–10 lb.; lift 10–50 lb. from floor to waist; occasionally lift 100 lb. bags of ice melt (two‑man lift) or 40–100 lb; operate heavy equipment weighing 100 lb. or more. Hands/Arms:
Use large wrenches, frequently grip, twist, pull, push, lift, swing and operate tools. Finger dexterity required for computer usage. Body Movement:
Constant walking, stair climbing, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working from ladders 4–12 ft. Vision:
Read printed materials and computer screens; differentiate wires by color. Hearing & Speech:
Communicate in person, by telephone, or radio.
