Meter Specialist (Gas/Water)
The Meter Shop is hiring a Meter Specialist who will be responsible for calibrating, installing, disconnecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing both gas and water metering equipment.
Gas Meter Responsibilities include:
- Installing and disconnecting various types of high-level gas meter related equipment in the field for large commercial/industrial customers
- Installing plant information (PI) equipment for energy management systems
- Operating field test equipment to perform diagnostic/accuracy tests
- Adjusting, repairing, and maintaining meters to ensure compliance with standards and specifications to PUC standards for regulatory acceptance
- Refurbishing meters and equipment to include the use of a sandblast bench and paint booth
- Maintaining records and entering daily meter transactions into multiple applications
- Programming electronic reading hardware for AMI and correcting instruments and modems
- Maintaining test equipment to comply with industry standards
- Conducting beta testing of new equipment
- Researching and staying up to date on the next generation of gas metering and related technologies
- Performing meter readings of special accounts
- Troubleshooting problems through gathering and researching data and analyzing data to reach a resolution regarding consumption issues
- Managing small-scale projects in relation to first article testing
- Providing technical assistance as the gas measurement SME for other departments or divisions to find best practices
Water Meter Responsibilities include:
- Testing all water meters (residential and commercial) to ensure accuracy
- Performing store functions between the warehouse and meter shop
- Testing and repairing backflow devices and hydrant meters
- Maintaining and tracking meter numbers to ensure no duplication
- Entering meter configurations and other data into the C2M database and other related applications
- Processing permits for commercial customers for backflow devices and hydrant meters
- Refurbishing hydrant rental equipment to include the use of a sandblast bench and paint booth
- Following hazmat procedures for the disposal of oil filled water meter registers
Who You Are
- Demonstrated experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating gas and water meters
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license - this job requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles to visit job sites
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess for Heavy Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
