Job Summary

The Carpenter Foreman is a working supervisor responsible for leading a crew of Carpenters and Laborers in the construction, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures using carpentry hand and power tools.

This position requires prior healthcare construction experience
, including infection-prevention practices and ICRA barrier construction
. The Carpenter Foreman must be a safety- and quality-focused leader with well-rounded experience in commercial interior carpentry.

Relevant carpentry experience should include:

  • Infection-control and ICRA barrier construction
  • Wall protection and casework
  • Doors, frames, and hardware installation
  • Metal and wood framing
  • Drywall installation, taping, and finishing
  • Blocking and backing
  • Selective interior and minor structural demolition
  • Rough and finish carpentry
  • Concrete formwork, reinforcing installation, and concrete finishing

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Carpenter Foreman directly supervises and coordinates the activities of trade employees while also performing construction work alongside the crew as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely and supporting an incident- and injury-free culture.
  • Coordinate, direct, and lead employees engaged in construction activities.
  • Plan and assign work based on project schedules, material requirements, and workforce needs.
  • Supervise crews to achieve high standards of safety, quality, workmanship, productivity, teamwork, communication, and morale.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and healthcare infection-prevention requirements.
  • Implement and monitor ICRA barriers and other infection-control measures within active healthcare environments.
  • Identify and communicate project priorities, potential delays, safety concerns, quality issues, and other jobsite challenges to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with project estimators and leadership by providing information regarding labor hours, material needs, production, and staffing requirements.
  • Review, verify, and submit employee timesheets.
  • Communicate repair and maintenance needs for major tools and equipment assigned to the project.
  • Ensure employees receive required safety training and consistently comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible commercial construction and carpentry experience.
  • Previous healthcare or hospital construction experience is required.
  • Experience with infection-prevention practices and ICRA barrier construction is required.
  • Well-rounded interior carpentry experience, including wall protection, casework, drywall framing, taping and finishing, and doors, frames, and hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate construction crews.
  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety, workmanship, and quality.
  • OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety certification or the ability to complete required training.
