What We're DoingBecome a part of something IMPACT‑ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.
The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.
Our WorkThe Software Engineer responsibilities include software development and support of the GMD Fire Controls (GFC) suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground‑based Midcourse Defense Weapon System (GWS) program. You will develop and implement software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features of the GFC system, collaborate with team members, and work in a cross‑functional agile scrum team.
The selected individual will support the GFC product development out of Colorado Springs, CO and will primarily work within the support layer between the front‑end and back‑end of the GFC product.
- Design, develop, document, test and debug application software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
- Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in planning, designing, developing and utilizing electronic data processing systems for product software.
- Collaborate with other software and systems engineers to determine computer user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepare operating instructions.
- Ensure software standards are met.
- Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.
- Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.
- Apply systems thinking to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end‑user needs.
- Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.
- Thrive in a fast‑paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
- Note:
This position is not offered as a teleworking or hybrid position.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Computer Science discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree and 3 years of related experience.
- Recent and extensive experience developing software in Ada, C++ or Java.
- Willingness to become highly proficient with Ada software development.
- Practical experience with Software Design.
- Recent experience with version control software and Atlassian tools (Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins).
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
- Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
- Experience with Missile Defense Agency systems.
- Understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery.
- Experience working in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment.
- Experience programming in GNAT Programming Studio and Visual Studio Code.
- Familiarity with Agile software development practices, Scrum, Kanban and Scaled Agile Framework.
- 2+ years of experience with C++.
- Ability to maintain and upgrade existing applications developed using Ada within a large code base.
- Familiarity with CORBA and ACE/TAO or ORB express.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government customer personnel.
- Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition.
- Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project goals.
This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration.
Clearance Level: Secret
