The team at Lockheed Martin is dedicated to engineering, developing, and integrating new capabilities for the Missile Defense System that protects the United States and its allies. While part of a large organization, we operate within smaller, agile teams in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Our responsibilities include sensor/weapon integration, algorithm development, user interface development, automated testing, cyber security, and enhancing critical missile defense technologies.
THEWORK
Lockheed Martin is seeking a software engineer who will thrive in a fast‑paced team environment in the design, development, and testing of software applications. Under minimal direction, the engineer provides specialized expertise within multiple systems, software disciplines, and general knowledge of related disciplines, application implications, and customer areas.
- Design and develop new Java applications; maintain existing Java applications
- Support software testing and resolution of issues from multiple baselines
- Perform in‑depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution
- Work from system specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications
- Assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs
- Interface with other system support groups
- Generate software design artifacts and support design and code reviews
- This position requires a government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- The role will involve approximately 10% travel to customer sites throughout the United States.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience with at least one modern software language such as C++, C, C#, and/or Java (preferably C++).
- Knowledge/Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Knowledge/Experience in a Version Control System (Git).
- Software development in a Linux environment.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
Python, JavaScript, HTML. - Strong analytical/problem‑solving abilities; effective communication for cross‑team coordination;
Experience with JIRA and Confluence. - Automation with Ansible.
- Containerization experience.
- Microservice experience.
- Software design/architecture experience.
- Hardware/software integration and test experience.
- Security+ certification is a plus.
- Experience in design and development of software applications.
- Experience in developing new capabilities into a legacy software system.
- Experience in software analysis against performance requirements.
- Experience optimizing software applications for performance.
- Experience developing complex mathematical algorithms from whitepapers or algorithm design documentation.
- Experience resolving cyber/security issues identified by Fortify/Sonar Qube/etc.
- Experience using Eclipse to develop software applications.
- Experience using Maven/Gradle or other software build tools.
- Experience using automated unit testing frameworks.
- Security+ or equivalent certification may be required within 60 days of starting.
This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration. Clearance Level: Secret.
WORK SCHEDULE- Schedule:
4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week. - Onsite full‑time; work performed at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Annual base salary range in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, or Washington DC is $76,500 – $134,895. For other states, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
