Java Developer, Software Engineer
Systems Software Engineer, Missile Defense National Team (Associate, Experienced, Senior) – Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL. Support the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) as part of the Boeing Missile Defense National Team.
The team develops the Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2
BMC) system, ingesting data from sensors worldwide into a single source for the warfighter. The program covers system architecture, development, deployment, operations, maintenance, and sustainment. Work integrates effort across multiple companies with expertise in model-based systems engineering (MBSE), requirements development, modeling and simulation, network design, integration, test, and analysis.
- Work with industry partners to design, develop, maintain, and test new and existing Java‑based applications for C2
BMC. - Support the full software development lifecycle: generate design artifacts, implement code, participate in design and code reviews, test, and resolve issues.
- Actively participate in agile planning and execution using established processes.
- Develop software requirements and architecture for MDS systems.
- Develop, select, tailor, and deploy integration and test processes, tools, and metrics.
- Execute and document integration and test activities and events.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Familiarity with Agile software development process.
- 2+ years backend development experience (Java, Spring, Oracle SQL, SQL Server).
- 2+ years experience in Unix or Linux environments.
- 2+ years experience with development, deployment, and version control tools such as Git, Eclipse, Jira, and Version One.
- 1+ year experience with SysML Modeling Language.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, technical, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 3+ years related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Strong Java (J2EE/Java Spring) development experience.
- Strong understanding of software development principles (OOP, design patterns, testing/debugging).
- Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts:
System Requirements, Use Cases, SysML diagrams. - Experience developing Java applications in Eclipse.
- Experience with Maven, Gradle, and/or microservices.
- Experience with software performance optimization.
- Experience with automated unit testing frameworks.
- Experience developing command and control software applications.
- Security+ or equivalent certification within 60 days of start.
- Knowledge of server‑side development and message passing.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including performance issue review, root‑cause analysis, and solution development.
- Familiar with Dev Sec Ops (not required).
- Missile defense domain experience (not required).

Pay is based on experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.
Associate level: $99,450 – $134,550
Mid level: $126,650 – $171,350
Senior level: $160,650 – $217,350
Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
Export Control RequirementsMust meet U.S. export control compliance. A U.S. Person (Citizen, National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) is required.
EducationBachelor's Degree or equivalent required.
