Summary

The shuttle driver is primarily responsible for transporting passengers across campus and may occasionally perform bus charters off campus within approximately 100 miles of campus. The position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements, is subject to random driving record checks and screenings, and is a minimum of 50% part‑time.

Essential Functions
  • Provide safe and dependable transportation, primarily on campus, and occasionally off campus.
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections with high competence.
  • Maintain route schedules, departure times, passenger counts, and related paperwork.
  • Perform refueling, fluid checks, bus sweeping, and vehicle safety inspections.
  • Demonstrate good judgment on routes to manage passenger, vehicle, and traffic conditions.
  • Assist loading, unloading, and securing disability passengers professionally.
  • Cover shifts when other drivers are unavailable.
  • Drive bus charters for athletic teams and other organizations.
  • Occasionally assist with training campus community members on campus vehicles.
  • Work days, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Job Competencies
  • Professional driver who adapts to various driving situations while serving all campus community members.
  • Safely operate commercial shuttle buses (14‑55 passengers).
  • Drive in a legal, safe, defensive, and non‑distracted manner.
  • Use phones, tablets, computers, texts, email, and MS Teams for daily tasks and communications.
  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
Eligibility & Requirements
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver’s license; at least 18 years old.
  • Must pass pre‑employment background checks and DOT drug screening.
  • Must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; routine lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Must complete required physical tasks such as climbing, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Must be available for mandatory training sessions in January and August.
  • Must maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and a Class C or higher CDL with passenger endorsement (preferred). If lacking, university will provide training provided the candidate completes all testing and training phases within timelines.
  • Experience operating passenger shuttles requiring a CDL preferred.
  • Experience with minor vehicle tasks (headlights, tail lamps) desirable.
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to perform routine repairs highly desirable.
  • Ability to perform office duties such as filing or data entry preferred.
  • Provide five professional references upon request.
  • Official transcripts required upon hire.
Timeline
