Position Overview James Irwin Charter Schools is seeking a dependable and responsible Bus Monitor to assist with the safe transportation of students to and from school. The Bus Monitor rides the school bus with students, helps maintain a safe and orderly environment, monitors student behavior, and maintains accurate attendance as students board and exit the bus.
The ideal candidate is attentive, reliable, comfortable working with children of varying ages, and able to calmly and consistently enforce school bus expectations.
Work Schedule Monday–Thursday Morning: 6:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.Afternoon: 2:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.Friday Morning: 6:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.Afternoon: 1:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.Approximately 20 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ride the assigned school bus route and actively monitor students throughout the trip.
Help ensure students remain safe and follow all posted school bus rules and expectations.
Take attendance as students board the bus.
Maintain an accurate student roster throughout the the afternoon, take attendance and document students as they exit the bus to their parent/guardian.
Ensure students exit at the appropriate designated stop.
Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe, calm, and orderly environment so the driver can remain focused on operating the bus.
Redirect inappropriate student behavior and reinforce school and bus expectations.
Communicate student behavior or safety concerns to the bus driver and appropriate school/transportation staff.
Check the bus at the end of the route to help ensure all students have exited the vehicle.
Follow all James Irwin Charter Schools transportation and student-safety procedures.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with students and families.
Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience working with children or students preferred.
Must be dependable and able to consistently report for early-morning and afternoon split shifts.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, drivers, and school staff.
Ability to remain calm and use good judgment when addressing student behavior or unexpected situations.
Must be attentive to student safety and comfortable enforcing established rules and expectations.
Must be able to successfully complete all required background checks and school employment requirements.
