Financial Reporting, Financial Controller, Financial Compliance
We’re looking for a hands‑on, technically strong Controller to own day‑to‑day accounting operations across our multi‑entity, multi‑currency global structure. Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll run the close, drive financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, and maintain a strong internal controls environment. This is not a purely managerial role — you’ll mentor and direct the team while working right alongside them, rolling up your sleeves to close the books and take on hands‑on project work directly.
You’ll lead a team of four accounting resources who work collaboratively as a team, and you’ll partner closely with a lead FP&A resource who reports to the CFO and works alongside you and the accounting team. You’ll also work very closely with our external auditors on the annual PCAOB audit and quarterly reviews — strong, first‑hand experience running and managing an audit is essential.
Ours is a fast‑paced, dynamic company where needs and projects change constantly. You’ll need to be comfortable managing varying and shifting priorities, setting clear expectations with stakeholders, and delivering on time — strong time management is critical.
What You’ll Do- Personally own the close — in‑the‑weeds, hands‑on closing of the books alongside direct project work, not just oversight
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all global entities (U.S., Netherlands B.V., Czech s.r.o., and U.K.), including consolidation and multi‑currency / foreign currency translation across four currencies and four entities
- Run and interpret reporting from Shopify, extracting and analyzing data from the platform to support the DTC channel that drives the majority of company revenue
- Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Assist in preparing global accounts and tax compliance function across all entities and jurisdictions
- Oversee the general ledger and core accounting operations: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and treasury support
- Maintain, document, and continuously strengthen internal controls over financial reporting
- Work closely with external auditors on the annual PCAOB audit and quarterly reviews, keeping the books, processes, controls, and reporting fully aligned with PCAOB audit standards — which are meaningfully more rigid than AICPA — and coordinate tax compliance across U.S. and international jurisdictions with outside advisors
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Partner closely with the lead FP&A resource on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Mentor and direct a team of four accounting resources, working right alongside them as part of the team to get the work done
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and an active CPA license
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller-level leadership
- Hands‑on, in‑the‑weeds experience closing the books and doing project work directly — this is not a purely managerial role
- First‑hand direct‑to‑consumer (DTC) experience paired with extensive Shopify skills — including running reports and extracting and interpreting data from the platform. As an omnichannel business with DTC representing our largest revenue concentration, this experience is critical
- Comfortable working across multiple currencies — not just USD and one other; we operate in four currencies across four global entities, and multi‑currency work has consistently tripped up Controllers who aren’t already comfortable with it
- First‑hand experience running and managing an external audit, plus a solid understanding of PCAOB audit requirements (meaningfully more rigid than AICPA) — able to keep the books, controls, and reporting aligned to that standard even while not driving the compliance process directlyl>
- Comfort in a fast‑paced, dynamic company where needs and projects change constantly — able to manage varying and shifting priorities, set clear expectations with stakeholders, and deliver on time; strong time management is critical
- Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the financial close, with experience in multi‑entity consolidation
- Advanced Excel skills
- Industry background in consumer products, direct‑to‑consumer (DTC), e‑commerce, retail, footwear, or other inventory‑intensive businesses
- Public accounting
- International or cross‑border accounting experience, particularly EU entities
