Substitute School Secretary
The Substitute School Secretary provides temporary clerical and administrative support to school offices in the absence of the regularly assigned secretary. This position assists with the daily operations of the school office by supporting staff, students, parents, and visitors while maintaining a professional and welcoming environment. Substitutes are expected to follow district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements while assisting with routine office operations.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing clerical and administrative support for the school office.
- Greeting students, parents, visitors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
- Answering and directing telephone calls and assisting with general inquiries.
- Assisting with student attendance documentation and office records as directed.
- Performing basic data entry and maintaining office files and records.
- Assisting with distribution of messages, mail, and school communications.
- Supporting building administration and staff with routine office tasks.
- Maintaining confidentiality of student and personnel information in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.
- Following district safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the building principal or administration.
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with teachers, support staff, students, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written language.
- Ability to perform school secretarial duties and general office tasks as assigned.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school setting.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including criminal background screening and fingerprinting Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.
Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the office environment. Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers, telephones, and printers. Ability to perform clerical tasks and assist visitors and staff as needed.
Terms of employment for substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment. Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
