Job Description

The External Relations Manager leads the site’s External Relations function responsible for advancing the company’s business objectives and social performance through proactive stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, community and economic development, social-risk management, and effective resolution of community concerns. The Manager serves as a senior representative of CC&V, advises site leadership on community, local government, media, and reputational matters, and oversees the employees, contractors, consultants, plans, budgets, and programs supporting the External Relations function.

The Manager is also responsible for developing and executing strategies that strengthen relationships with communities, elected officials, businesses, educational institutions, local media, and other key stakeholders locally and regionally.

Day to Day

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Community & Stakeholder Relations:
    Develop and execute the site's external relations strategy, Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), and related annual plans.
  • Identify, map, and prioritize stakeholders and develop appropriate engagement strategies based on stakeholder interests, influence, concerns, and potential site impacts.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with local communities, local elected officials, government agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, neighboring landowners, and industry partners.
  • Represent CC&V at public meetings, community forums, government meetings, public hearings, and other external events.
  • Lead community meetings, advisory groups, public consultations, open houses, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Monitor community sentiment and emerging social or reputational issues and provide site leadership with stakeholder perspectives and recommendations.
  • Maintain system-based tracking tools, ensuring data quality, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Community Development:
    Lead implementation of the site's Community Development Plan in alignment with business objectives, social-impact findings, and community priorities.
  • Establish priorities and oversee community investments, partnerships, and development initiatives related to education, workforce development, local suppliers, economic diversification, infrastructure, tourism, community capacity, and historic preservation.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of economic development initiatives with a strong emphasis on participatory design and community ownership.
  • Social Performance:
    Support implementation of the site's Social Performance framework, including Social Impact Assessments (SIAs), Human Rights commitments, social risk management, and sustainability reporting.
  • Identify and evaluate social and reputational risks associated with operations, projects, permitting activities, and organizational changes.
  • Own and administer the site’s community feedback, concern, and grievance mechanism.
  • Manage the site’s Cultural Heritage Management program.
  • Support reporting against ESG and sustainability objectives.
  • Communications:
    Set the site’s communications priorities and ensure public information is accurate, timely, accessible, and aligned with company positions.
  • Oversee public meetings, open houses, community events, mine tours, educational outreach, and visits by elected officials and other stakeholders.
