Job Description

Provides support to the counselors and campers, along with the program staff team (Head Girls Counselor, Head Boys Counselor). Responsible for the supervision of 10 counselors and 70 campers in a residential camp setting, throughout four one‑week sessions. DAS is responsible for coordinating all logistics for the day programs, including scheduling, set, and tear down of activities. Facilitates recreational activities and leadership programming to groups of 12 campers.

Collaborates with Stone Canyon Administration and Counselors to provide an excellent camp experience for all campers. Creates meaningful connections with all staff and campers. Facilitates cohesiveness and bonding between campers in the residential setting. Counselors are expected to stay in cabin overnight for the duration of the camp session. Develops and promotes good community relations among various district and community clientele.

Qualifications
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
  • Essential

    Physical Requirements:
    • Occasional lifting of 20 to 50 pounds.
    • Occasional lifting of 50 to 100 pounds.
    • Frequent bending, stooping, walking, climbing and kneeling.
    • Must be able to hike up and down hills on a daily basis at high elevation.
    • Must be able to work and teach in inclement weather including heat, snow, rain and sleet.
Responsibilities
  • Assist staff in the set up and tear down of Club and Choice activities.
  • Print rosters for the Campers Choice activities and distribute rosters to staff.
  • Schedule all Campers Choice activities, ensuring all campers are assigned to an activity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Assist daily in the general cleaning of residential and program areas.
  • Support kitchen staff and supervise campers during meal times.
  • Lead songs and group games.
  • Inform Summer Camp Coordinator of any program materials that need to be purchased.
  • Communicate all camper concerns (behavior, health, emotional) to Summer Camp Coordinator with proper documentation if needed.
  • Once a week act as on‑duty to lock up the site and answer any calls from the cabins.
  • Plan and facilitate evening activities with the other Program Staff.
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate 60–90 minute recreational and leadership activities.
  • Ensure counselors are prepared for the daily activities; the DAS will observe counselors as they are teaching and provide feedback within 24 hours.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all staff and campers.
Certifications
  • CPR – Red Cross
  • First Aid – Red Cross
Education
  • High School or Equivalent
Skills
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.
  • Able to learn and execute the lessons/activities in the leadership curriculum.
  • Effective communication with administration for all questions and concerns.
  • Approachable, fun with kids, and able to be silly.
  • Maintains a generally positive attitude.
  • Availability for all four sessions (June 18 – June 16).
  • Observes all District policies and procedures.
  • Open to receiving constructive feedback and applying it in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
  • Computer applications skills:
    Microsoft Office.
  • Problem‑solving, organizational, and analytical skills, including budget oversight.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexible and able to work cooperatively with supervisors and co‑workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the school district community and lead teams.
