Job SummaryAltitude Energy is seeking an Estimator-1 to assist in estimating and bidding Transmission, Distribution and Substation projects. This position involves bidding projects all over the U.S. This requires a minimal amount of overnight travel, and regular and predictable attendance. Candidates with a background in high-voltage electric construction or engineering is a plus. Candidates will need to possess the ability to perform precise cost estimates and secure bids.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented, have great time-management skills, and be able to build and maintain strong client, subcontractor, and vendor relationships.
- Driver’s license and MVR requirement:
Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR - Education:
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred (Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Construction Management, or Accounting would be ideal) or equivalent work experience. A Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) certification is a plus - Experience:
Relevant experience in reading blueprints, estimating construction projects, using estimating software, material procurement, reading contracts, or writing proposal letters will be helpful - Technical
Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, experience with Adobe, Bluebeam, and Plan Swift - Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
General:
- Performs all duties assigned by supervisor or manager
- Attend, prepare for, lead when required and participate in meetings.
- Role will possibly involve business development, marketing, and review of incoming projects
- Understand and comply with company policies, company operating procedures, regulations, and codes.
- Self-driven with the ability to stay on task for extended periods of time while working independently. Being able to support team members and work in a group when necessary.
- Attend pre-bid meetings (onsite and/or via online platforms).
- Interpret project requirements, review drawings, specs, contracts, and perform take-offs.
- Gather data on labor, equipment and materials to create accurate cost estimates and prepare full proposal packages.
- Compare project documents (contracts, schedules, specifications) for accuracy and consistency.
- Review commercial terms and conditions and address risk issues.
- Understand Customer bidding requirements (bonding, insurance, safety, DBE, etc.).
- Get vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Write proposals and clarifications
- Organize and maintain bid files and documentation
- Oversee contracts:
The ability to read, understand and follow all contract documents. Ensure all bids are completed according to contract documents. - Communication:
Maintains open and good communication with owners, engineers, project team, subcontractors, & leadership. - Believes and leads by Altitude’s “Core Values”.

- Ability to attend Prebid meetings on jobsites (may be required to wear steel toe shoes, FR gear, hardhat, and safety glasses)
