The Mountain Mail in Salida, Colorado, part of O’Rourke Media Group, is looking for an ambitious reporter to produce outstanding journalism for both our award-winning print newspaper and our growing digital platforms.
This is a modern local journalism position. You’ll report on the stories that matter most to Salida and Chaffee County while creating content for our weekly newspaper, website, newsletters, social media channel and mobile audiences.
If you’re passionate about local journalism, enjoy covering breaking news and community issues, and want to help grow both readership and digital engagement, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll Have the Opportunity To:- Cover local government, education, business, public safety, outdoor recreation, sports, and community events.
- Produce compelling stories for both our print edition and digital platforms.
- Cover breaking news quickly, accurately, and professionally.
- Capture photos and short-form video to enhance storytelling.
- Build trusted relationships throughout Chaffee County.
- Help grow readership, digital audience, newsletter subscriptions, and social media engagement.
- Passionate about local journalism and community storytelling.
- A strong writer, interviewer, and storyteller.
- Curious, self-motivated, and digitally savvy.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Excited about producing journalism that reaches readers in print, online, and across social media.

Salary range: $40,000 to $45,000 to start.
