Job Summary
The Cinema Studies department is encouraging applications for the Cinema Services Specialist position. The purpose of this academic services professional position is to support the development, implementation, coordination, and supervision of the goals, objectives, and activities associated with the Department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts (CINE), as well as responsibility for providing needed promotional materials for the department and programs.
Key Responsibilities include operational support, student employee and temp staff supervision, departmental website and social media oversight, faculty/student resource as a specialist in established operational and technical practices, operational workflow creation and implementation, as well as other needs that may arise to support program managers and faculty.

What We AreThe Department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts (CINE) seeks to integrate the critical, historical and theoretical study of cinema, media and the visual arts, with artistic and commercial practices. Our department offers the academic degrees BA, and BA/MA in critical film studies, and BA, BFA, and MFA degrees in film and video arts. All of our students in the critical and production tracks complete a number of critical studies requirements including cinema history, film analysis, film theory, genres, documentary practices, directors, national and regional cinemas, and other history and theory classes.
These courses are coordinated with filmmaking and critical studies majors sharing their different expertise to deepen understanding of the subject.
Key Responsibilities Will Be
Department Front-End Support
- Implement support procedures to meet the Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts department goals and objectives. The primary purpose is to ensure that the department’s objectives are realized through support in multiple paths, from the website design to daily operations.
- Coordinate with CINE faculty and staff to ensure objectives are accomplished and material needs are met through creative problem solving and resource utilization, with an eye towards process improvement.
- Support for current and prospective CINE students, directing to resources and assisting with inquiries or technical issues.
- Organizes the daily activities of the front office.
- Maintains department list serves, publishes office hours, and maintains faculty and student mailboxes.
- Provides information about the department to faculty, students, alumni, and visitors.
- Provides clerical support to department administrators, faculty, and staff with word processing, spreadsheets, design and creation of office procedures, forms and records tracking systems, and copying.
- Designs, maintains, reorganizes (when needed) and supports webpages, often in consultation with faculty leadership and CINE staff.
- Creates links to external community websites, campus resources, and CINE events when appropriate.
- Uses best judgment to independently improve and maintain the website, including assisting other staff members who may need adjustments to other parts of the site they hold responsibility over.
Event, examination, and special-program coordinator for the department
- Coordinate departmental activities and events, including working with cross-campus offices and room availability software.
- Manage events and special opportunities within the department.
- Schedule departmentally controlled spaces for special events.
- Plan and coordinate the department’s commencement ceremonies.
Outreach
- Provide tours to prospective students and families interested in studying film, film production, and all programs offered by the department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts.
