Position Summary

Leadville Visitor Center Ambassadors are the face of the Leadville Visitor Center. They work closely with all guests, both locals and travelers, to provide up-to-date information about Lake County and the surrounding areas. Ambassadors are responsible for creating a warm and welcoming environment for all visitors.

As a Visitor Center Ambassador, you are a representative of many establishments in the county, including The Lake County Government, The Lake County Tourism Panel, and The City of Leadville. It is essential that all communication with guests (local or visitor) is supportive of all Lake County establishments and their operations. Communication with guests promote Leave No Trace Principles and Do Leadville-Twin Lakes Right messaging.

This position reports to the Tourism/Visitor Center Manager. Ambassador shifts are done on location at the Visitor Center, daily shifts lasting 6.5 to 7.5 hours. This position includes weekend and holiday work.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Opening and closing the Visitor Center including cleaning indoor and outdoor spaces and public use bathrooms.
  • Greeting guests upon arrival, recording information about where the guest is visiting from, asking guests about their plans for their visit and providing key information to ensure they are aware of Lake County offerings and expectations.
  • Recording key visitor information on the daily log using an Xcel spreadsheet.
  • Being respectful and welcoming to all guests, no matter their culture, background, or beliefs.
  • Ambassadors are expected to be familiar with all Visitor Center brochures, handouts, and Tourism Panel provided resources. Ambassadors are expected to stay up to date with local business hours and offerings, upcoming activities and information about county amenities that are available to guests.
  • Restock brochures as needed and inform the manager of low stock.
  • Responsible for responding to voicemails, emails and address brochure mailer requests.
  • Ambassadors must be able to work both independently, as well as comfortably with others.
  • Ambassadors need strong communication skills to communicate needed information clearly with co-workers, supervisors, guests, and community partners.
  • Ambassadors must have basic computer knowledge including operating a tablet using Square point of sale for cash, credit, and check transactions.
  • Ambassadors must be comfortable balancing cash registers at the start and end of the day, recording daily sales on the deposit slip.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the customer service industry (including but not limited to hotel, hospitality, cultural nonprofits, public events, outdoor recreation, and historic preservation).
  • Strong written/verbal communication.
  • Exceptional people skills and ability to multi-task.
