River Valley Family Health Centers is looking for a full time Dental Assistant to join our team in Montrose and Delta, CO.

The Dental Assistant supports dentists in delivering high-quality oral care by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, and assisting during procedures. Responsibilities include taking dental impressions and X-rays, maintaining patient records, and ensuring patient comfort throughout their visit. The Dental Assistant also helps manage inventory and supplies and may provide patients with post-treatment instructions. The Dental Assistant position is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position;

A day in the life of a Dental Assistant includes:

  • Preparing the patient for their dental visit, sterilizing or disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting dentist or other care providers during intra-oral procedures.
  • Taking and recording medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients. Recording treatment information in patients’ electronic medical records.
  • Polishing or help restoring teeth as directed.
  • Providing postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist and instructing patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.

Qualifications
  • GED/High School Diploma required
  • Previous experience as a Dental Assistant preferred, or have completed an accredited Dental Assisting program, or be willing to complete a program within 12 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.
  • Ability to travel between clinics as needed.
  • Ability to comprehend both oral and written communications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with patients and team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel to meetings outside of the service area.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet job requirements.

    Ability to be a team player. Support and assist team members in daily tasks.
  • Must demonstrate cultural sensitivity when working with individuals and groups of diverse racial, ethnic, economic, and social backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

This position requires long periods of standing and walking, sitting at a computer, the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 pounds, etc. Employees are exposed to blood, body fluids, and other occupational hazards, and are required to complete mandatory vaccines, such as Tdap, Hep A, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, and the yearly flu vaccine.
