Library - Branch Manager (Fairplay)

General

Purpose:

To manage library services for the residents of one of the four county libraries in Park County. Responsible for the complete operation of the Fairplay Library including the circulation of library materials, the registration of library patrons, furnishing information to library users and overseeing the library staff scheduling, building maintenance, repairs and cleaning. Direction and guidance is exercised over part-time staff, volunteers and program workers.

Position reports directly to the Library Director.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides patron services in locating library materials and checking library materials in and out
  • Assists in selecting library materials for the branch and coordinates with the Library Manager the purchase of materials
  • Responds to patron's reference questions by advising where materials are located
  • Assists library patrons in learning library skills
  • Answers telephone requests
  • Co-ordinates with the Library Manager building and security matters
  • Processes applications for library cards, notifies patrons of overdue books and collects fines
  • Prepares fine, copy and fax money for deposit
  • Oversees and participates in the shelving of library materials
  • Assists patrons with special library services. This includes but is not limited to Colorado Virtual Workforce Center, Over Drive, Universal Class, WiFi access, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, internet access, Mango Languages, Libby, Beanstack and others
  • Creates and oversees the placement of book displays and seasonal decorations
  • Trains and supervises staff and volunteers in library work
  • Prepares monthly statistics on circulation
  • Maintains working relationship with Friends of the Library and the Library Board of Trustees
  • Works cooperatively with schools and community organizations
  • Attends meetings as requested
  • Schedules and directs staff meetings for branch personnel
  • Works with other branch libraries of Park County to support the development of library services in Park County
  • Advises the Library Manager when maintenance or repair of facility is required
  • Prepares notes for PCPL Trustees meeting when requested by Library Manager. Attends to organization of the facility through arrangement of fixtures and materials
Supervisory Duties
  • Assign and schedule work on a regular basis for subordinates, community service workers, and volunteers
  • Monitor and control work flow on a regular basis; schedule library staff to ensure coverage during library hours
  • Evaluate and work with staff to maintain standards of service performance and compliance with library and County policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Recommend hiring, discipline and dismissal, if necessary, of those reporting to this position
  • Recommend salary level for those reporting to this position
  • Supervise training of subordinates, community service workers, and volunteers

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two-year's experience as a library assistant or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License
Special Requirements
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of library science
  • Basic office skills
  • Computer proficiency using library database program
  • Ability to assist patrons efficiently with research and reference questions
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to set priorities in a busy environment
  • Ability to work with others in an efficient and pleasant fashion.
  • Knowledge of current library standards, Park County library policies and procedures
