POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community College of Aurora is looking for innovative, inclusive, equity-minded and engaging instructors to teach Composition classes through inclusive and student-centered learning strategies. CCA is committed to quality instruction and maintains high academic standards as well as a strong commitment to the success of our students. Educators in the English program are continually working to refine pedagogy, practice, and assessment to improve outcomes for all students, particularly those with marginalized or minoritized identities.
We are a department that values collaboration and experimentation, and we're looking for a part-time instructor who shares these values. The English program works to implement Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Culturally Sustaining practices.
We are currently looking to add to our instructor pool, with in-person daytime and nighttime classes available.
OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Maintain expertise in the subject area and effectively teach assigned courses;
* Develop inclusive lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies and outcomes
* Be knowledgeable about Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to engage in learning in these areas)
* Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, challenging, equity-minded, student-led, and engaging instruction that centers student voice and ways of knowing.
* Participate in innovations in English instruction and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies that foster completion and retention for all students;
* Implement current and effective teaching and learning practices, including diversification of instructional delivery, incorporation of diverse sources and voices into curriculum, and demonstration of cultural competency in teaching.
* Evaluate student performance in a constructive, timely, and effective manner as stated in the course syllabus.
* Teach assigned classes in keeping with the CCA mission and vision while promoting the English program
* Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices.
* Complete all required instructional professional development activities including a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during their first semester.
* Stay current with and implement expectations by reading emails regularly and attending departmental, divisional, and college meetings as called by the Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and President.
* Understand and uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college, while abiding by all relevant CCA guidelines, and CCCS/SBCCOE policies and procedures.
* According to established timelines and expectations, create and provide a course syllabus for each assigned class to the department. Provide students with department approved syllabi by the first day of classes in the LMS.
* Maintain accurate records according to department/division/college expectations and guidelines, including Instructional Guideline 2.11, in the college LMS - Desire2
Learn (D2L). Submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines.
Required Qualifications:
* An in-hand Master's degree in English (Composition, Rhetoric, or Literature) OR an in-hand Master's degree in a related content area with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours (or quarter equivalent) in English
* Demonstrated willingness to learn about and incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in instruction.
* Dedication to active, learner-centered teaching method
Preferred Qualifications:
* College-level teaching experience
* Community College teaching experience
* Knowledge and practice in inclusive and Culturally Responsive or Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy
