Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education: $18.21-$19.27 per hour.

Purpose of the Job:
The Behavior Support Paraprofessional works under the close and ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and building site administrator to provide direct, evidence-based behavioral intervention services to students in special education and general education who are engaging in challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities include:

implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs designed by the BCBA, training school staff on BIP’s and skill programs, completing fidelity checks on data collection and program implementation as well as supporting the BCBA in the behavior assessment process. The behavior support paraprofessional will support students and staff in a way that fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment.

This role requires a strong commitment to ethical practices, data collection, and collaboration with school teams, families, and other professionals.

Education:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Must be willing to complete a 40 hour Registered Behavior Technician Training (Training is approved to be used for salary movement)

Experience:

  • Working with children or adolescents with special needs, particularly those with behavioral challenges and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, in a school or clinical setting is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with and experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Basic technology competency for job-related functions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • RBT Certification preferred (see above)

Other Criteria:

  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • First Aid certification preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.

  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Physical strength and coordination to meet the educational, physical and emotional needs of students assigned.
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.

  • Implement individualized skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols as outlined in student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direct supervision of a BCBA.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction as directed by the BCBA
  • Support students in various school settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and during transitions, to promote positive social-emotional and academic growth.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention intervention techniques in accordance with district-approved methods to ensure student and classroom safety.
