Contract Period: 189 working days.

Salary Range

*$60,105 to $85,100 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience)
* The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE
1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly.

Position Overview

School counselors leverage leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to foster student success, deliver preventive services, and address identified student needs. They implement a comprehensive school counseling program that supports the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.

Primary Duties

The school counselor plays a vital role in supporting students' academic, career, and personal/social development through a comprehensive counseling program.

Key responsibilities include:

Curriculum Development and Implementation:
Plans and implements services/instruction within the comprehensive counseling curriculum to support students in content areas. Develops rapport with students to identify issues and barriers to their success.
Behavioral Support:
Actively leads and supports the integration of positive behavioral supports school-wide for all students, which may include one-on-one sessions, small groups, or classes.
Crisis Intervention:
Responds to student mental health crises and needs by providing education, prevention, and crisis/short-term counseling. Makes referrals to community resources as needed.
Legal Compliance:
Meets all legal requirements, including timelines for professional practices in accordance with educational law and district policies. This includes, but is not limited to, 504, RtI, MTSS, concurrent enrollment, and graduation plans/requirements.
Student Relationship Building:
Prioritizes effective interventions, ensuring that each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with a caring adult.
Mandatory Reporting:
Ensures building staff are aware of and trained in mandatory reporting requirements. Works closely with social services in student and family investigations and may testify in court regarding school-related data.
Evidence-Based Practice:
Integrates evidence-based school counseling and related research into practice.
Community and Resource Knowledge:
Demonstrates knowledge of community/local services to assist students. Uses an understanding of students' homes, community, and school environments to implement, evaluate, and adapt services.
School Culture and Climate:
Assesses and enhances school culture and climate to create an inviting, respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students.
Diversity and Inclusion:
Develops and delivers programming and services that honor diversity within the home, school, and local/global communities, considering culture, demographics, and socio-economic status.
