Primary Responsibility

Full time faculty positions begin in July 2026 with a 30-credit hour (170-day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses that lead to both certifications and the Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science within the Colorado Mountain College district and service area. Examples of courses include but are not limited to:
Fire Fighter 1 Academy, Fire Fighter 2 Academy, and Hazardous Materials. Lead faculty in this discipline additionally facilitate recruiting, training, and scheduling of Fire Technician staff and adjunct faculty. They also maintain and purchase supplies, coordinate testing and state required documentation, assist in the collection of student records, and identify local opportunities for experiential partnerships in conjunction with the campus's Instructional Coordinator.

With reassignment time granted, this faculty position serves as a campus Program Lead and includes curricular oversight in coordination with the Dean of Allied Health, Public Safety, and Outdoor Studies. This position also serves as the faculty leader and reporting liaison to the Associate Dean of Public Safety Programs. Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned;

evaluating courses and assessing student learning; meeting established course, program and student learning outcomes; complying with guidelines and policies; maintaining office hours per established standards; developing rapport with students; assisting with and participating in advising; participating in orientation; and registration activities.

CMC Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, peer mentoring, participation in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:

An Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 4,000 hours of verified, paid Fire Department work experience in the past five years is required; or Bachelor's Degree and 2,000 hours of verified, paid Fire Department work experience in the past five years. Degree and previous teaching/training in directly related field preferred. Both formal and non-formal teaching experience will be considered.

A Degree in Fire Science, Public Safety, Public Administration, or related field is preferred.

Current certifications required to teach in the fire science curriculum are required. Examples include:
Colorado State Firefighter 2 or higher Certification, Colorado State Fire Instructor, Colorado State 1403 Live Fire Certification, an Auto Extrication Class Certificate, and Colorado State Haz Mat Operations Certification.

Salary range: $79,902.51 - $97,321.19 annual salary, depending upon a combination of education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, and affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, and relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience.

Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
