Job Description:

The Summer Orientation Leader /Orientation Captain (SOL/SOC) plays a critical role in supporting incoming students as they transition to the Mount Holyoke College community. Through personalized outreach, programming, and digital engagement, SOLs help advance institutional goals related to student success, belonging, and anti-melt efforts (reducing summer attrition).

SOLs serve as peer mentors and ambassadors, providing high-touch engagement to deposited students and ensuring they feel informed, supported, and excited to enroll.

Key Responsibilities

Peer-to-Peer Outreach & Student Support

• Conduct individualized (1:1) outreach to students through phone calls, text messages, and email
• Welcome incoming students and introduce them to the Mount Holyoke community
• Provide case management-style support to a designated group of students, assisting with onboarding tasks, answering questions, and connecting them to campus resources
• Monitor student engagement and progress using available data to inform targeted outreach strategies

Programming & Facilitation

• Facilitate interactive virtual sessions for incoming students on topics such as:
  • Living on campus
  • Academic preparation
  • Getting involved on campus
  • Mount Holyoke traditions
  • Move-in and orientation
  • Building community and belonging

Communications & Content Creation

• Develop and share engaging digital content (e.g. social media posts) for incoming students
• Respond to incoming student inquiries in a timely, professional, and supportive manner
• Write personalized postcards to be sent to incoming domestic students

Collaboration & Strategy

• Participate in weekly check-ins and data reviews to assess student engagement and identify outreach priorities
• Collaborate with campus partners to align messaging and support services with institutional goals
• Contribute to ongoing anti-melt strategies by identifying trends and recommending outreach interventions

And other duties as assigned.
