BHS Assistant Cheer Coach – Fall 2026

Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado. The BHS Assistant Cheer Coach supports the Head Cheer Coach to develop and maintain a high‑quality cheer program that promotes school spirit. The coach assists each student in achieving higher skill levels, greater discipline and teamwork, and increased confidence. Responsibilities include teaching competitive cheer techniques, choreography and routines, ensuring safety, and supervising practices and school activities.

Qualifications
  • CHSAA Coaching Registration and certification
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Concussion in Sports NFHS Certification
  • Other required courses/certifications per BSD/CHSAA
  • Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check
  • Completed and submitted BSD online application
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in maintaining an active and effective cheer program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development through practices, activities, and competitions.
  • Develop and organize practice schedules for individual and team development.
  • Assess strengths and determine needs for improvement.
  • Supervise athletes during practices, activities, and competitions.
  • Participate in special activities including games, pep assemblies, banquets, and award nights.
  • Assist in cleaning, repairing, inventorying, storing, and replacing all equipment.
  • Implement and enforce the BHS Athletic Agreement for each student‑athlete.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of injury.
  • Communicate with parents and hold conferences to maintain open lines of communication.
  • Model and utilize nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Administer budgets and ensure cost‑effective program management.
  • Follow BHS purchase order and P card procedures.
  • Supervise fundraising to supplement travel, camps, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Act as team representative and promote BHS Cheer through media, community groups, and other organizations.
  • Encourage community and parent involvement with effective communication techniques.
Education and Training
  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Experience in coaching basketball at the high school or middle school level.
Skills, Knowledge, and Equipment
  • Extensive training and experience in cheer techniques, strategies, and safety.
  • Model professional behavior and conduct.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, coaches, students, and parents.
  • Know state, league, and local policies governing athletics.
  • Implement policy and procedures, manage budgets, and coordinate activities.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, managerial, and planning skills.
Salary

Per the Bayfield School District extra‑curricular stipend schedule based on education and years of experience. For this position: $4,080 per season.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must be able to work outdoors during student activities. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to lift or move up to 75 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing requirements include distinguishing bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.

Must be able to drive a vehicle and district equipment.

Work Environment

Work environment is moderate to loud noise. Comfortable functioning in both indoor and outdoor work environments is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
