Position: Bridge (ESL, HSE, HSD, ABE, & EAP) Faculty - 1 year term*
Location: Carterville

Job Description

Primary Responsibility: Full‑time faculty positions begin in July 2026 with a 30‑credit‑hour (170‑day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.

The successful candidate will support the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of Bridge courses, including English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), Adult High School Diploma (AHSD), and English for Academic Purposes (EAP), as well as related transition/pathway courses. The role focuses on student access, retention, persistence, and successful progression through Bridge programs while strengthening connections to college, career, and community pathways.

This position also supports the development of career‑connected Bridge courses based on local workforce needs. It may include teaching at night, on weekends, online, and at multiple campus locations.

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach course load as assigned.
  • Evaluate courses and assess student learning.
  • Meet course, program, and institutional learning outcomes established by CMC.
  • Comply with department guidelines and college policies.
  • Maintain at least five office hours per week to meet with students.
  • Develop rapport with students that encourages professional communication.
  • Assist with academic advising of students.
  • Participate in orientation and registration activities.
Scholarly and Creative Activities
  • Continue certification in discipline (if applicable).
  • Complete graduate coursework.
  • Pursue continuing education.
  • Share expertise within discipline (e.g., grant writing, publishing, exhibitions, performances, presentations, conferences).
  • Attend campus and college‑wide trainings and in‑services.
  • Conduct research.
  • Develop or advance instructional technology.
  • Engage in other activities approved by faculty member and Assistant Dean of Instruction.
Service Activities
  • Serve on campus and college‑wide committees.
  • Represent discipline on state, national, and international levels.
  • Participate in relevant projects with administrative approval.
  • Mentor peers.
  • Modify, develop, and maintain curriculum.
  • Assist with assessment activities (e.g., develop learning outcomes and assessment projects for courses, disciplines, and programs).
  • Assist with program review.
  • Advise student organizations.
  • Participate in recruiting/retention activities.
  • Attend and participate in program, discipline, in‑service, and campus meetings.
  • Develop promotion portfolio.
  • Participate in community service activities as appropriate.
Organizational Relationships
  • Operate under the general direction of the site school discipline dean or designee.
  • Cooperate with other program faculty.
  • Work with Student Services personnel in advisement of students.
  • Work cooperatively with Academic Services, Student Services, and Administrative Services personnel.
Qualifications

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Ideal qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree in TESOL, Linguistics, English, Adult Education, Developmental Education, Education, or a related field with 18 graduate credits in TESOL.
  • Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) required, or willingness to obtain within three years.
  • Minimum of one year, full‑time teaching experience or equivalent as an adjunct faculty member.
  • Higher education teaching experience and knowledge of a language other than English.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of delivery modes, including online.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, and collegiality.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities required.

Additional Requirements

This position requires the employee to be a resident of the State of Colorado and perform all work duties within the state.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Term: 1‑year position.
