Job Summary

Academic Advisors work in a multi‑disciplinary “neighborhood” team setting to assist students in planning for—and making informed decisions about—areas of study, intended college outcomes, and post‑baccalaureate plans. They educate the whole student through a developmental advising approach and are charged with implementing advising strategies and interventions to enhance performance and persistence throughout campus. Advisors help students assess interests, values, and academic skills, support long‑term degree planning, course registration, and graduation timeline planning.

Advisors teach students to navigate university systems, personalize academic paths, offer co‑curricular guidance and referrals, and engage students in workshops, presentations, campus events, and other activities. They stay up‑to‑date on curricular requirements, policies, and opportunities to provide accurate, timely guidance. A successful advisor demonstrates an agile mentality, enthusiasm, passion, relationship‑building, exploration, goal‑setting, and a student‑support orientation with strong communication skills.
