Title
PCELC, Regular Education Teaching Assistant - Contract Length: 153 days.
Reports ToBuilding Principal or PCELC Director.
Minimum Qualifications- Must have ONE of the following:
- At least 48 credit hours completed at an institute of higher education; OR,
- An associate's (or higher) degree; OR,
- Must be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. (Testing is administered through the School District.)
- Clear background reports through fingerprint submission to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and FBI partially paid for by the employee through payroll deductions.
- One year of professional experience with appropriate age group desired.
- Physical ability to do some lifting, which includes lifting of students for personal hygiene activities.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with staff and administration.
- Ability to be flexible.
- Ability to take initiative during instructional activities.
- Must be willing to be trained in Best Practices and instructional techniques.
- Appreciation and acceptance of diversity.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED Certification.
- Ability to perform all of the job duties listed under Duties and Responsibilities.
- Classroom Duties:
- Assist in the instruction of students using lesson plan developed by the Group Leader or General Education Teacher.
- Help prepare classroom materials.
- Create and implement curriculum adaptations in collaboration with the Group Leader or General Education Teachers, according to students' individual education plans.
- Assist the Group Leader or Regular Education Teacher with supplementary work for students.
- Supervise independent Study
- Reinforce lessons in small and large groups.
- Assist in classroom demonstrations.
- Assist with individualized program materials.
- Assist in observing, recording and charting behaviors.
- Implement behavior management strategies initiated by the Group Leader or Regular Education Teacher.
- Assist with crisis problems and discipline as directed by the Group Leader or Regular Education Teacher.
- Program Duties:
- Accompany students to classes.
- Supervise students on playground, lunchroom, study hall and field trips
- All Special Education Teaching Assistants must also:
- Perform work of acceptable quality and quantity.
- Demonstrate dependability and enthusiasm in performing assigned tasks.
- Become familiar with and adhere to Board approved School District Policies and regulations.
- Serve as a positive liaison between the school and the community, while maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrate effective relations with other staff members and work in cooperation with them to achieve positive results.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff and the public.
- Demonstrate high personal and professional standards and maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the position.
- Participate in the writing of personal goals and objectives which demonstrate the ability to develop professionally.
- Attend annual training as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
PCELC, Regular Education Teaching Assistants are evaluated annually by the Building Principal or PCELC Director. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Policies GDO and GDO-R:
Evaluation of Classified/Support Staff.
The PCELC, Regular Education Teaching Assistant position is an at-will position.
Work YearAugust-July –153 days per year, 7.7 hours per day (4-day week).
Salary and BenefitsSalary:
Initial placement on the Classified Salary Schedule, column S1 is at the discretion of the Superintendent. Salary is an hourly rate based on placement on the schedule. Up to ten (10) years credit for previous experience in a comparable position may be allowed.

Necessary travel throughout the District requires the use of a private vehicle and Colorado Driver's License. Work outside of regularly scheduled hours may be required to fulfill job duties and responsibilities. Work may need to be performed in narrow, poorly lighted, confined spaces.
