School Counselor, Guidance Counselor: Social/Educational, Bilingual, Special Needs / Learning Disabilities
Location: Pagosa Springs
Purpose of the Job
Engage students in-person and online, collaborate with teachers and staff to promote student success, provide outreach and support services, and respond to identified students to ensure each student achieves personal and program goals. Provide onsite direct support to staff and students and help create a safe, effective learning environment.
Essential Duties and Major Accountabilities- Be accountable to students, colleagues, and the school team.
- Develop and maintain transparent and honest relationships with students and team.
- Provide interventions as needed, including student discipline and fostering positive relationships.
- Maintain physical presence on site or when required by the school.
- Transport students for school‑related activities using a CDE certified vehicle and driver certification.
- Monitor attendance data and provide interventions for disengaged students; execute home visits, parent communications, and student success plans.
- Ensure timely documentation of all interventions.
- Collaborate with regional leadership and the Social Emotional Team on truancy documentation and, if required, attend truancy court hearings.
- Complete all required training and adhere to school policy and state law, including confidentiality, mandatory reporting, and FERPA.
- Connect students to external resources through the GOAL Social Emotional Team.
- Actively recruit new students through community partnerships and events.
- Provide basic tech support and manage helpdesk tickets.
- Facilitate student academic learning, accommodations, and social‑emotional support staff access.
- Champion assessment culture by ensuring student participation and proctoring for state‑mandated tests.
- Understand GOAL learning platforms (Schoology, Edgenuity, GOAL Portal).
- Build connections with staff, students, and parents to advance academic progress, including progress reports and conferences.
- Maintain knowledge of GOAL Academy extracurricular activities and student opportunities.
- Maintain daily student communication and document attendance using GOAL systems.
- Participate in daily POD huddles to establish clear communication and define responsibilities.
- Love for children and enthusiasm for their success.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Comfortable with technology and problem‑solving.
- Collaborative and ethical with a strong work ethic.
- Maintain confidentiality and be willing to travel regionally.
- Must work all scheduled calendar days in Colorado.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Residency in Colorado.
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
- Demonstrate subject‑matter competency: either an associate or higher degree, at least two years of college coursework, or a formal assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Two years of experience working with youth (preferred).
- Two years of experience working with students in secondary school or school system (preferred).
- Experience with at‑risk youth (preferred).
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
- Seldom: lifting over 30 pounds, climbing, crawling, bending, walking uneven surfaces, and traveling nationally or internationally.
- Occasional: noise, working alone, local travel, and lifting over 20 pounds.
- Frequent: driving, computer use, and manual tasks under 20 pounds.
