Compensation & BenefitsProposed hiring rate of $21.00 to $27.00+, adjusted based on experience. Seasonal position eligible for season pass for employees/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Various discount programs (food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) available.
Job SummarySeeking PSIA level 1+2+3 Ski instructors with at least one season of teaching experience. Must be at least 18 years old, available for weekends and holidays, enthusiastic about skiing and teaching all ages and ability levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- The Ski and Ride School Instructor will ensure the best possible experience for the Copper Mountain guest, working on an individual basis and as part of the overall mission of the resort.
- Lead group classes while focusing on individual engagement and progression.
- Create guest loyalty through great experiences in a short time frame.
- Instill confidence in teaching skiing ability to guests.
- Provide an unsurpassed mountain vacation experience every day.
- Develop rapport with students quickly, establish a connection with the students.
- Learn names, welcome new students with warmth.
- Begin lessons before the lesson starts.
- Maintain serious focus on safety and whereabouts of all students.
- Weave safety culture into teaching: safety is a habit, not a lecture.
- Ask students safety questions rather than stating rules.
- Use terrain to produce safe movement.
- Identify different learning styles among students and demonstrate different teaching styles accordingly.
- Understand beginner ski progressions for different age levels and demonstrate them to the class.
- Identify ability level in students and split them into groups by ability level when needed.
- Engage the class 100% of the time while simultaneously focusing on individual and unique student needs.
- Read when a plan isn’t working and change course without making it a big deal.
- Model the values, philosophy, and mission statement of Copper Mountain Resort.
- Act as a real team member, cooperating with all employees, including fellow SRS instructors, supervisors, and staff from all departments.
- Respond quickly and effectively to a wide variety of situations including possible emergencies while maintaining composure and keeping students and fellow employees calm.
- Manage personal stress levels, maintain balance between work and personal life.
- Supervise children in class, assist at lunch and snack times, ensure return of children to identified guardian.
- Assist in operational responsibilities of Ski & Ride programs including registration, directing guests to equipment fitting, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
- Ensure actions are in accordance with Copper Mountain Resort’s Standards of Business Conduct and align with policies and procedures outlined in the resort’s handbook and SRS training.
- Assist other departments in operational responsibilities when needed, including Events/Competitions and Lift Operations.
- Accept new responsibilities and transfer others as role evolves. Function as ambassador of Copper Mountain, model and share the Copper “culture” with guests and employees.
- Uphold the most professional image, strive to exceed guest expectations and create memories.
- Seasonal position may have fluctuations in hours based on overall business volumes.
