Position Summary

Seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Paraprofessional to support a student with specific medical, communication, and developmental needs for the 2026‑2027 school year. This position involves providing individualized support to ensure the student’s academic, social, and personal needs are met throughout the school day.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor the student’s health and behavior, record incidents, and report concerns to supervising teacher or medical team.
  • Assist with the administration of prescribed medications under the supervision of the district nurse and report any concerns.
  • Maintain a medication log and ensure secure storage of all medications.
  • Provide feeding support, follow dietary restrictions, and document any feeding difficulties or reactions.
  • Assist with mobility, ensuring safety during transitions, and provide physical assistance during PE, recess, and other activities.
  • Provide sensory support, create an environment that minimizes sensory overload, and offer a calming space.
  • Implement behavioral strategies and interventions, use positive reinforcement, and maintain consistent routines to help the student stay engaged and regulated.
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop and implement an individualized plan; attend meetings and participate in professional development.
  • Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records of medical, educational, and behavioral progress; document incidents and report them to appropriate staff.
  • Be prepared for medical emergencies, including first aid and CPR; familiarize with the student’s medical history and emergency procedures; keep emergency contact information up‑to‑date.
  • Provide emotional support to promote social interactions, build relationships, and encourage an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Adapt classroom activities, lessons, and assignments to meet the student’s needs, use assistive technology, and ensure accessibility of materials.
  • Ensure the student’s safety during bus transportation; assist with boarding and disembarking.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Ability to supervise and monitor students in both classroom and transportation settings.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for engaging with students, staff, and parents.
  • Initiative, independent work, and flexibility in meeting the needs of students and the program.
  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining classroom materials and safety procedures.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist children with mobility and personal care needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree or higher, or two years of verifiable college coursework (48 semester hours), or ability to pass the Work Keys proficiency test.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in an early childhood education setting.
  • Multilingual skills.
  • Experience working with children with diverse learning needs.

Working Environment
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift.
