Job Description
The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College are tasked with assisting students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available which complement the teaching process. Faculty members must be committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. Although teaching is the most important role of the faculty, the needs of our learners are also served when faculty are engaged in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities.
The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College is an institution offering associate and bachelor’s degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and excellent outcomes for all students.
Primary ResponsibilityThe adjunct faculty members are responsible for teaching assigned courses, evaluating courses and assessing student learning, meeting established course, program and learning outcomes, complying with guidelines and policies, maintaining office hours per established standards, developing rapport with students, and assisting with advising, orientation and registration activities. Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and enhance learning, as well as service activities such as campus and college committees, relevant projects, mentorship, assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting, and retention.
Pre‑requisitesfor Position (Qualifications Standards)
- Credentialed to teach in the specific program or eligible to be credentialed; a master’s degree in the specific field or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in a related field is required.
- Minimum of one-year full‑time teaching experience, or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor; higher education teaching experience preferred.
- An equivalent or applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Special skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience equivalent to two years, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational and general office skills (filing, typing, answering phone, customer‑oriented and attention to detail), excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to research and effectively analyze data, work independently toward established goals and deadlines.

- Support for environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.
- To teach classes as assigned by designated supervisor.
- To prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved course objectives.
- To develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to appropriate supervisor.
- To assist with development of measurable course objectives and plans.
- To develop a professional relationship with students and staff that encourages teacher/student communication.
- To maintain accurate course records of students and complete course forms as required.
- Be available for student consultation.
- To assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
- When agreed upon, and as appropriate, to assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance.
