Position Summary

Under the supervision of the library’s Director, the Programming Coordinator is responsible for leading the development of programming for all ages, with an emphasis on young adults (12-18) and adults (18+). This includes collaboratively developing long-term programming plans and evaluation. With the library’s mission and values in mind, the Programming Coordinator also selects books, media, and other materials for the Young Adult collection.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Creates, implements, and maintains programs and services for people of all ages, with an emphasis on young adults and adults, including establishing goals and priorities for general programming.
  • Cultivate online and print collections for young adults, develop a long-term collection development plan for the Young Adult collection, assist Children’s Services with other children’s collections as needed.
  • Carry-out unique outreach to children and young adults in collaboration with schools, parent groups, and local organizations.
  • Promote collections, programs, and services in collaboration with our Marketing Coordinator.
  • Lead the planning and programming of our biannual reading challenges.
  • Assists with existing children’s and family programming when needed (e.g., story time, bilingual story time, STEM programming).
  • Keeps informed of trends in literature and issues in library services and programming through professional development such as workshops, conferences, or online classes; be willing to travel to conferences and workshops (in-state and national).
  • Solicit feedback from patrons to develop activities and programming that best meet their needs.
  • Perform operational functions of the library such as circulation and reference services, shelving & shelf reading.
  • Develop and promote the usage of our new Creation Station.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with program planning.
  • Experience working with children and/or young adults.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Computer Technology:
    Understands current computer technology and software (MS Office, Google Workspace, etc).
  • Teaching and demonstrating technology programs and software to patrons of all ages.
  • Has a general understanding of different book formats currently available (ebooks, audio books, etc).
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Possesses excellent listening skills and responds calmly to stressful situations.
  • Able to operate with minimum supervision and work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to concentrate on and complete tasks in the presence of distractions and interruptions.
  • Skills in design software such as programs in the Adobe Creative Suite (preferred not required).
  • Travel to conferences or events within and outside of the state of Colorado may be required.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
