Description
The Project Engineer plays a critical support role on construction projects, working closely with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to keep work on schedule and within scope. From coordinating submittals and RFIs to tracking materials, updating schedules, and managing project documentation, you’ll be involved in nearly every phase of the project lifecycle.

Maintenance and administration functions necessary for successful project completion. Process submittals, expediting deliveries, generating and tracking administrative documentation, and preparing project closeout records. Assist with budgets, billings, change estimates, subcontractor buyouts, labor hour monitoring, and coordination with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers. Support internal coordination with field workforce, estimating, purchasing and accounting departments, and accounts payable.
Responsibilities- Assist with and/or perform tasks assigned by the Project Manager.
- Manage contractual agreements with owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and field staff, using RK’s management system.
- Maintain daily corporate documentation: time cards, daily reports, work authorizations, receiving documents, as‑built drawings, etc.
- Coordinate timely completion of material and equipment buy‑outs in collaboration with the superintendent and purchasing department, staying within established budgets.
- Negotiate and issue lower‑tier subcontract contracts, keeping scopes and budgets aligned with contract documents.
- Process shop drawings, product submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, and record all as‑built drawings.
- Track take‑off orders, procure and release change order items with purchasing and superintendent(s).
- Provide forecasted estimates for project costs, outstanding extra work totals and unbilled amounts.
- Ensure proper and efficient project closeout and keep the Project Manager and VP of Operations informed of status.
- Work to optimize company profitability by demonstrating sound decision‑making and judgment.
- Indirect supervision.
- Full competency in all conventional aspects of the role and independent problem‑solving ability.
- 3‑5 years of experience in a related position (Project Engineer
1) or 1‑2 years (Project Engineer
2). - College/university graduate or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Experience in managing project documentation, submittals, change orders, and closeout processes.
Physical Requirements
- Stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and office equipment.
- Occasionally reach, stoop, or kneel.
- Require close vision for computer work.
