Engineering Technician I
CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician for seasonal employment with our Summit County, CO office. Engineering Technicians perform field and/or laboratory observations, tests, and inspections on various projects. They communicate with project managers, contractors, other engineering technicians, client representatives, and field personnel at the project site. They collect and transport sample specimens to the laboratory for testing and complete daily reporting.
They maintain and clean company vehicle, equipment, and work areas as needed, assist field managers in other assignments, and comply with company policies and safety standards.
Compensation ranges:
Engineering Technician I $18.00–$31.00 per hour, Technician II $21.00–$34.00 per hour, Technician III $25.00–$38.00 per hour. Salaries are based on experience and qualifications. Seasonal employees receive paid sick time, paid holidays, and a 401K plan.
Training is essential; individuals with varying levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Training topics include responsibilities and cross‑training in other areas to promote growth and development.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Engineering Technician I – None
- Engineering Technician II and III – Train field staff
- Perform observations and testing according to industry standards on soils, concrete, asphalt, masonry, rebar, and other construction materials.
- Document field observations and test results accurately.
- Generate field reports daily and review data before submission.
- Communicate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and design team personnel.
- Understand construction plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and related documents.
- Troubleshoot field challenges, support the field team, and communicate effectively.
- Consult with project managers on field findings and work closely with team members.
- Maintain and calibrate assigned equipment.
- Follow safety rules and practices, including project‑specific policies.
- Perform pre‑task planning before field work.
- Maintain quality standards on all assignments.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Job‑related certifications preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2–3 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 2 applicable certifications
- B.S. in geology (optional or in place of experience and certifications)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 3 applicable certifications
- B.S. in civil, geotechnical or related engineering field (optional or in place of experience and certifications)
This job operates outdoors in a field environment and may involve extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold and heat. PPE and other safety equipment are routinely used.
Physical / General Requirements- Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds at times
- Ability to walk on uneven and varying terrain construction sites
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Evening and weekend work likely
- Verification of right to work in the United States (I‑9 completion within three days of hire)
- Passing a drug test from a laboratory certified by Colorado
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record according to company automobile insurance policy guidelines
