Join our Public Works Department as a Civil Engineer III – Capital Improvement Supervisor. The Town is seeking a Civil Engineer III (Supervisor) which is also referred to as a Capital Improvement Supervisor. In this role, you will be leading a talented team of Civil Engineers while playing a key role in overseeing project management of critical infrastructure planning, design and construction projects for the Public Works department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary duties include reviewing engineering calculations and design, providing technical and professional engineering support services, leading tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes, overseeing and reviewing developing plans, specifications, and other project documents, and interpreting, applying and enforcing the provisions of the Town's engineering design standards adhering to applicable federal, state and local codes, laws, rules regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures.
Supervisory duties include overseeing and providing direct supervision of assigned Engineering staff to ensure assigned projects and tasks are complete, accurate and completed in a timely manner, providing mentored experience to direct reports and other engineers, conducting performance evaluations and ongoing coaching and feedback direct reports, and supporting department values and culture through mentorship, support, and team-building efforts.
Administrative/Miscellaneous duties include keeping informed of updates to standards, regulations, and best practices, analyzing complex civil engineering projects to determine design requirements, uncertainties, and constraints, acknowledging and applying concepts of sustainability to civil engineering projects, and preparing engineering standards and specifications for the Town and making recommendations to supervisor.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or closely related field, six years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering relating to construction, development, drainage, utilities, or transportation engineering work, knowledge of state and local industry standards, and group lead, supervisor or management experience. Desired qualifications include a Master's degree or equivalent, infrastructure planning, design and construction review and/or project management experience in local government or municipality, member of professional practice organization, demonstrated experience using computer software packages including ArcGIS, Sequel database, AutoCAD Civil 3D, advanced Excel, Word, Outlook, and hydraulic modeling programs, experience with project management principles, finance, permitting, and project development including alternative project delivery models, with contractor involvement, experience with construction contract management, including but not limited to contractual documents, RFIs, submittal processes, schedule of values, and change orders, and strong communication skills with the ability to interact positively with a wide variety of people and stakeholders.
Professional Engineer License (P.E.) through Colorado State Board through reciprocity within one year is also required.
Job Expectations:
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely to various Town facilities and at times other locations to perform the duties of the position. A motor vehicle record will be pulled through the background check. Requirement of being in-office a minimum of 3 days a week, dependent on business needs.
