Job Description

REPAIR TECH :
The Home Audio Repair Technician plays a critical role in optimizing the lifecycle and quality of our pre-owned consumer audio inventory. When our testers uncover operational issues or opportunities to restore a unit to our high standards, the product is routed to our repair team. Specializing strictly in home audio (not studio, live sound, or pro gear), The Music Room processes components and speakers across a vast array of brands and eras—spanning modern state-of-the-art to classic vintage technology.

Whether you are early in your repair career with strong fundamental skills or a seasoned pro, this role offers room to grow. You will work both independently and collaboratively to handle the full lifecycle of assigned gear: conducting initial intake and diagnostics, performing component-level bench testing and repairs, managing parts and repair queues, and documenting all updates in our ticketing system to ensure inventory listings stay current and units are promptly brought back to market.

Essential Functions

Component-Level Diagnostics & Technical Repair:

Troubleshooting:
Perform component-level fault isolation, signal tracing, and diagnostics on high-end 2-channel and home audio equipment.

Circuit & PCB Repair:
Execute PCB soldering, desoldering, and hardware repair on both modern solid-state and legacy/vintage vacuum tube circuitry.

Equipment:
Utilize bench test equipment—including oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and distortion analyzers—to diagnose, calibrate, and verify performance to factory specifications.

Quality Assurance & Listing:
Conduct rigorous final bench testing under load to certify functional safety, sonic performance, and reliability prior to listing items on our sales channels.

Inventory Control, Sourcing & Bench Logistics:

Creative Problem Solving:
Leverage technical ingenuity to source or adapt rare parts, including harvesting componentry from unrepairable units when original parts are obsolete.

Backlog & Workflow Hygiene:
Manage individual bench repair queues to maximize throughput without sacrificing quality, keeping pace with a high volume of inventory intake.

Parts & Vendor Logistics:
Maintain active bench inventory for common components, order specialized replacement parts, and coordinate third-party outsource repairs for specialized factory services.

Documentation &

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Ticketing Accuracy:
Meticulously document diagnostic findings, work performed, bill-of-materials, and labor phases in our internal ticketing system.

Cross-Team Support:
Serve as a technical subject-matter expert for intake, testing, and customer-facing teams when technical inquiries arise.

Essential Qualifications

Demonstrated Technical

Experience:

Experience in component-level electronic diagnostics and repair, with a proven track record in high-end consumer HiFi audio, pro audio electronics, or a closely related vintage/modern electronics repair field.

Circuitry

Experience:

Grounding in electronic theory (Ohm’s Law, AC/DC circuit analysis, bias adjustment) and familiarity with audio amplifier topologies,…
