The Plans Analyst examines commercial and residential building plans ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. This role works with customers including engineers, architects, homeowners, and contractors. The Plans Analyst coordinates activities with the Chief Building Official, Combination Inspectors, Planners, Engineers, Fire Inspectors, and other agency staff.

Salary Range: $36.06 - $48.78/hour

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts systematic construction plan reviews and specifications for new and remodeled residential, complex and commercial, industrial, public, or other developments to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and ordinances and recommends the issuance of a building permit upon completion of the plan review.
  • Documents concerns on reviewed plans and review drawings not approved on prior review.
  • Maintains knowledge of state and local codes and ordinances and professional developments within the field.
  • Researches codes, ordinances, trends, and developments in the field of construction to evaluate and recommend improvements to codes, ordinances, and local regulations.
  • Researches problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction, and code compliance.
  • Explains laws, ordinances, and code provisions to contractors, property owners, and the general public including developing citizen assistance/code-related handouts and information.
  • Advises homeowners, architects, designers, contractors, and developers on code and design requirements. Provides information to the designer to assist in correcting deficiencies in construction.
  • Responds, documents, and resolves customer service issues by telephone or in writing.
  • Assists Combination Inspectors on difficult or unusual code requirements for major structures including field inspections when necessary.
  • Confers with the supervisor on more difficult plan reviews or where ordinance or code interpretation is required.

Education:

  • Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university – required

Experience:

  • 3 years experience required in building code enforcement, general construction or a related field.
  • Experience as a Plans Analyst preferred.

Other

Qualifications:

Must possess ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification or be able to obtain the certification within 1 year from date of hire.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and safe driving record for continued employment.
  • Recruitment requires pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, DMV check, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is generally scheduled Monday-Friday.
  • Work is performed at City/County work locations with the ability to perform some duties remotely in accordance with Broomfield's remote work policy.
  • Physical demands are light to medium.
  • Tasks may require use of a computer for several hours.
  • Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Travel by automobile is required to visit inspection sites.
  • Requires indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Some special inspection work may be required outside of the normal business day.
