Distinguishing Factors Summary of Job ClassificationPerforms entry/developing-level Probation Officer responsibilities, including investigation, assessment, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients’ court‑ordered services. Completes required training courses and programs.
Essential Functions- Performs case management duties including documenting client related activities, reviewing client documents and court orders, and managing the client's e‑file.
- Conducts face‑to‑face appointments and interviews. Conducts on‑going assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community. Develops appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with conditions imposed by the court.
- Assesses, prioritizes and responds to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De‑escales hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
- Completes a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior. Provides relevant information and sentencing options to court.
- Submits comprehensive compliance reports to the Court including revocation documents, taking care to protect confidential information. Updates the Court as needed and provides professional testimony.
- Informs staff, stakeholders, and public on Victim Rights Amendment. Responds to community feedback regarding clients and probationers in the community. Collects victim statements/positions for various court proceedings.
- Collaborates with other judicial districts and states on victim related concerns.
- Attends meetings and completes training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full‑time (40hrs/week) Probation Officer position in our Lake County Probation location at 1205 Harrison Avenue, Leadville, CO 80461. This position will have one day per week travel to either our Eagle or Summit locations during work time as part of its job duties.

There are two requisitions posted:
Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer. One position will be filled based on hiring needs and qualifications.
Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. The work performed by majority of employees is semi‑complex.
Physical DemandsExerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Work EnvironmentOccasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions, hazards and/or exposure to risk. Occasional outside work. Office environment.
Education and Experience EquivalencyMinimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field.
